Exactly, it's still really strong on social media, the ratings are still good for the CW and it has a great international market
I don't think they really know how to write the secondary characters individually, they only ever seem to be able to create character development when it's in correlation to a main 3 story line
Take Bonnie for example, she's generally been ignored the entire series yet now she's been stuck with Damon for a while she's going to come back 'more independent' and will have grown from her experiences
It's like they couldn't make her realize that she's her own damn person without it having something to do with her experiences shared with another character
And this is not bashing Bamon, because Bamon is awesome development wise for both Bonnie and Damon but I wish Bonnie was allowed to stand up for herself without having to go through a traumatic experience where she's left behind (once again), only prioritized when it doesn't conflict with another characters wants (*side eyes the fuck out of everyone but Damon*) and generally presented as not really worth anything as soon as she's not needed to solve the next big crisis
Like, where is her friendship with Caroline and Elena? Where is it with Matt and Tyler? Where is Beremy actually going? What happened to Abby? And Jamie? WHAT IS A BONNIE BENNETT WHEN NOT NEEDED FOR MAGIC?
I understand that the show is based on the main three, I get that all the other characters are sort of background but damn, TVD used to be all about relationship development and not just romantic development but familial development...where is Defan? Jerlena? Barolena? Matt/Tyler/Jeremy?
There seems to be hardly any connection between the characters lately other than 'hey, let's go solve our next problem so we don't all end up dead'
Jeez, I could rant for days about TVD...
