Well you can't really blame Damon for thinking like that about himself. Everyone around him has called him a monster and that includes his own blood and that's just sad because he agrees with them. He agrees that he doesn't deserve to love and be loved and ugh my baby.
I could never blame Damon, I just wish that he could see that Elena loves him just as much as he loves her. And if he can’t love himself I want Elena to be able to do that for him, because if no else is going to defend, love and protect Damon than Elena will.
