"you sound like my therapist," langdon teased as he took another sip of his redbull. he had been off benzos for a while now, but redbull was another one of his vices he wasn't willing to give up. 7am shift with two little kids at home? impossible. being back in the pitt had gotten eaiser though, he felt like he was a better doctor than he had been before and now people weren't staring at him waiting for him to slip up. at least, he didn't think so. if they were he wasn't noticing. he looks up at the board and watches everyone in the pitt, some of day shift still trickling in. "how's nurse emma doing?" he asks dana. "looked like she was having a good first day before that asshole came in."

"you look exhausted." it's meant kindly, even if maeve knows she's being far too blunt. worried peridot eyes study other all the same: observing with a sharpness that could slice through layers. her steps are always quiet, unimposing, swallowed whole figure in far too baggy jumper. but she knows those around her, knows how to read them. "are you okay?"

~ ' How are you not exhausted dealing with assholes like that all day...' Dennis SCOWLED at the back of the retreating man's head. Narrowing his gaze at the asshole currently being d r a g g e d away by security, still snarling out insults like he hadn't put his wife in here with a fractured eye socket.

' Do you ever just want to..y'know..' Dennis lifted his hands into a guarding posture, motioning a PUNCH in the air. The action causing the too-small scrubs to twist on his body awkwardly. Whitaker clearing his throat and adjusting them back into place. Flashing a SHEEPISH smile to Dana. ' They didn't have anymore my size.....the guy in room 3 threw up on me. ' ~

'i'm sooo awake,' she grumbles into the laminate of the hub, 'don't even worry. never been more awake in my life.' it's a gamble to leave her head where it is, but she takes it. after all, she only just put her head down– surely dana can spare her for 40 seconds. logically, cyn knew pulling a double– a full-on 24 hour double, no less– would kick her ass, but the opportunity for extra pay and to do donnie a favor had seemed worth it at the time.

now, she isn't so sure. it's just a slump, you just need to eat something, maybe drink some coffee. but god, is it a bad slump. her palms slap dully against the desk as she pushes herself up, flashing dana a smile that's caught somewhere between playful and hollow. 'see? the picture of energy right here.'

'she's out like a light.' dana smiles down at baby jane doe before placing her back in her bed.

" ah, that's great to hear. " mark's voice is low, careful to not wake the sleeping child. he can't help the smile that presses to the corner of his mouth as blue eyes flick up to the monitors. it's a sad thing to leave a child behind; doubly so a baby. " you have kids, yeah? easy to tell. not that it's a bad thing. you're just very good with her. " it's admirable is what he's trying to say ... in his own unique, roundabout way. mark flicks his gaze toward dana. " have you heard anything about where they're going to place her? " if it were up to him, he'd give her a space upstairs. unfortunately, it's not really up to him.

" d'ya think the mother's ever going to come back? abandoning a baby is a ... real dick move, if you ask me. " @dana3vans
