Bachata
Bachata has always been my favorite partner dance style. It involves so much connection and trust. From the moment the music starts to the last embrace. Bachata is a dance based on the crucial element of connection.
February 26th, 2016 We had a ballroom social at our neighboring (rival) university (although, in ballroom, it's kind of a moot point because half the time, people we think are ours (and used to be) technically compete with them, and our newcomer instructor went there, sooooo...). But let me just say...Our social was 10 times better than theirs. And that's being objective. The room it was held in was so small, people were trying to do quickstep, and TWICE, a girl was thrown into a closet door while doing a natural spin turn. It was also a candy-themed costume contest, and literally no one from their team dressed up. No one. Meanwhile...we were dressed as above. It was very weird when we showed up and no one from their team was wearing a costume. And I had a pink wig on. It was somewhat fun though, and I competed in a blindfolded waltz! I learned the basic salsa and bachata steps as well, and danced both a couple of times. I danced a couple of awkward tangos, one with a higher-up (and I think we might have been doing standard, which I don't technically know lol), and one with our bronze Latin/rhythm instructor. I was happy to have gotten to the end of the social without getting smacked in the face or smacking someone else in the face. We then went as a group to Waffle House, and after a very strange conversation, ended up dancing cha cha to "Smooth" in the middle of Waffle House. Yeah. That happened.
BAILANDO - OTTAWA'S NEWEST LATIN DANCE SOCIAL MARCH 14, 4-8 PM
Happy belated Valentine’s Day!
Hope your day was filled with some of the sweeter things in life (whatever and whoever they may be). Last night we rocked the cafe at Pressed with some sexy Bachata and uber romantic salsa. Special thanks to Jeff and Ana at Azucar for organizing such a great event.
On Friday, I posted an upcoming dance related announcement? What is it? I’m planning a party, and you are all invited!
Bailando is Ottawa's newest latin dance social. It will take place monthly on Saturday afternoons at Maxwell’s on Elgin from 4-8 PM. From 4-5 will be pure kizomba for all you 613 kizomba lovers, and 5-8 will be a salsa social. The party begins Saturday, March 14, 2014
In Havana, afternoon parties are called matinees, and amongst my favourite ways to spending the late afternoon and early evening.
