Thoughts on re-gaining balance

I went today, to the beaches I remember as a child – reverting back to the youthful, curious state of wandering along the tidal pools, naught on my mind but the innocent search for life, that glorious oneness we feel without the shackles of technology or society – just our hands exploring the earth, our eyes and ears invigorated by the raw yet perfect beauty; our senses situated in the moment – free of ego. As we were wandering along, I saw little life, much less than my memories and photographs tell me of when I was a child. My mind came back then, as I saw the remaining hermit crabs and anemones seeking refuge in the ebb and flow of the tide – living in their wet and salty worlds without question, judgment, or regret. The course of nature is change – allowing change, accepting your place in nature, but in a contrasted way to that in which we as humanity have developed. Reminiscing on the lack of starfish – the nostalgic feeling when realizing they are an example of a diminishing of life on each West Coast beach – is what lead me to begin expanding my thought on this and thinking of how it represents the changes which we, as humans, have gone through that were, from the start, a war with ourselves and an attack on nature – a lack of care in origin because the earth was flourished – the population far less than the abundance in resources, so why was there a worry. While some civilizations survived longer and still somewhat remain because they seemed to have a higher understanding of the world and universe around us; a balance between what you may call “religion and science”, ultimately most demise has come because of war between themselves, or over-consumption leading to drought and lack of resources to survive. These two basic concepts – because of the small differences in our mental evolution compared to animals; theorized to be very small on a universal measure; large on a direct contact basis. We have an instinct for hierarchy – natural in the animal world – yet combined with a much more complex mental capacity for memory; strong emotion leading to extreme complex attachment, faith, amongst other things; these developments creating a species that is inclined to be intelligent enough to develop technology to survive under any conditions and convert resources to allow consumption and protection. Yet the evolution of Homo sapiens physically on their own – developed to be insufficient in surviving things like climate change and natural selection if left in its hairless, two-legged state, and because of the technology that the human mind has been able to develop things to make it the most powerful, and highly destructive, species on the planet. While survival of the fittest is a natural part of nature – extinction is part of the process of creation, humanity has driven itself to a crossroad between what may become of us as a species. Just as a star eventually, in a time scale much greater than our own perception, explodes and can become a black hole, or, depending on its mass, or become a white dwarf. So, is our species fate written in the cards, or is there a choice we can make? Extinction; caused by more death, destruction and hate because of out-dated opinions on the world or radical faiths that sacrifice lives in this world in hope for a good one in another, or, alternatively, allowing a human evolution toward using technology as a source of nurture and realizing that heaven is on earth – it always has been. I doubt there are many people on this planet, and if so, it is a result of our demise, whom have not been captivated by nature in some way – many more than others, but even those who spend their lives making millions behind a cubicle, have a vacation home that is an “escape” to what we already have, and are destroying. The entire concept is backward, but it is a phase of our species. We are young, compared to most species on this earth. If you watch “Sacred Economics”, I’ll link at the bottom of an Upworthy video I saw a few months ago - Charles Eisenstein has a written a free to download book about the idea of a world in which money does not exist, and you can learn more about our phases of humanity, he explains that we are in growing from an "adolescent" toward an "adult" phase in our evolution. It seems radical, yes, and perhaps not in our lifetime, or even the next. But the question is – will we have a next?

It is necessary for our species to extract resources, and has been a part of our survival since we created fire – developing over time as we exceeded the mental development of nature at a rapid pace. And I’m not saying this from an uneducated standpoint – my dad is a geologist, and is currently working for a Canadian mining company that had a massive tailing ponds leak about a month ago, creating national and international attention toward the extraction of resources and the lack of safety measures. My dad, a good-hearted and intelligent man, but capitalist in his beliefs (categorizing within man-made systems seems the easiest way to explain a person these days) wanting to retire after years of hard work, now forced to face publicity and a war with “environmentalists” he does not want, and I, left feeling on the fence as I had many a debate with my father about my opinions on society, money, and capitalism – said Libran opinions being lead in different directions in my years. However, it dawned on me then, as it did when the sun glistened on the little life left on the shores of the sea, perhaps this moment, in his life; in all of our lives, is an example of how our categorization and differences are what keeps us at war with one another, and with nature. If the environmentalists, instead of using it as a new political platform or, in their own way, starting a battle against the capitalists and extraction industry once again; deep down falling victim to publicity and money, actually stayed true to what they claim and understood that a lot of their battery-charged cars are made from these minerals, maybe looking at it from this more balanced standpoint would create progress. Yes, mineral extraction may cause environmental damage, but a constant hatred between these “types” of people pursuing their dreams, beliefs, their money, their fame, or even just their comfort, is what needs to be diminished in order to move forward. But how can we? For example, the United States government cannot succeed to pass legislation to ban the right to bear arms for every citizen, and yet hopes to solve peace in foreign lands which they themselves assisted in causing turmoil within. The complexity is blatant, and many people choose to ignore it and turn a blind eye because they are afraid of the truth, and a lot of them don’t even realize it because of these overbearing mechanisms of controlling our minds – that there are people in power in our world that became so through wrong-doings and greed, and many of those who began to do so for the right reasons are covered by this shadow, or perhaps were tempted themselves and rose in power as they fell in heart – out of fear, instead of love.

We were created to think – some say we are the type of life the universe creates to try and understand itself. Therefore, we naturally, as being created by the universe and the planet, need to build and create things that can help evolve our minds while surviving comfortably. However, the complexity and the invention of money – an efficient and powerful way to control a quickly evolving society – and the use of organized religion as another tool to control people; we’ve seen it in extreme political regimes countless times – and yet we do not learn. We do not learn that the borders are self-built; the imbalance and impurity and death is our own doing; nature would have its way to control the population of course, and it will if we do not respect its power over us, and its importance to our survival. We have separated ourselves from what we were created from.
