Hi! I have a currently undiagnosed hip problem that causes me constant pain but it gets unbearable when i walk or stand for more than 30 minutes. Because of this I am thinking about getting crutches so i dont have to sit around until i get a diagnosis (god knows how long that will take) so I was wondering if you or your followers could help me with 1) talking to my parents about this and 2) crutches that wouldn't be too hard on my shoulders (those are bad too) thank you!

I don’t have experience with crutches so I’m counting on you, followers, to help this lovely person out!

I'm going to be cosplaying Captain Marvel and Dayoung Johannson (from the comic Rocket Girl). I was thinking of putting some yellow and orange tape on my cane for Captain Marvel so it looks like the blasts she can shoot from her hands. but idk about for dayoung. I also emailed the con bc they had absolutely no info on accessibility on their website but they haven't gotten back to me. I'm most nervous for saturday bc last year is was ridiculously crowded.

the tape idea sounds cool! i’d be cautious with that if you dont want tape residue on your cane though! my pride flag decoration was made of paper (and also in different sections so that i could still collapse my cane).

even the most crowded cons i’ve been to, i’ve always found somewhere to rest if i need a break. if not in the main area, then out by the food court type area. if it’s a really big convention center, there’s usually tons of tables and chairs and benches.

as far as the con email situation, did you check the website/email the actual venue? in my experience, convention centers are usually pretty accessible, i’ve never had trouble.

Hi I saw your post in the cripple punk tag and we have the same cane! I just got mine and my first big outing with it is going to be this weekend at boston comic con. I saw that you cosplay and I was wondering if you had any advice about going to a con with a cane. I'm super nervous esp bc i dont have a diagnosis yet, just a lot of pain so if people ask whats wrong with me then ????

personally, i didn’t actually get any questions about my cane, just some compliments on my decorations for ivy! i didn’t even decorate it on sunday (and didn’t use it on saturday). i don’t really get questions, but when i do, i match the attitude with which they were asked. if it’s genuine curiosity or concern, i tell them the truth, which is usually a light-hearted summary like “my joints are uncooperative”.

this was my first con with my cane, so i didn’t know what to expect, but it seemed people didn’t really care! i saw a batgirl in a wheelchair and an amethyst with a crutch, too.

as far as just using the cane at the con, i didn’t have much trouble, but comic con is probably a lot bigger than natsu! is it wizard world? if it’s more crowded, people might trip over it sometimes. idk it also makes a good weapon.

are you cosplaying? if you are (or even if you’re not tbh) you can decorate it.
