Topic: Spirals are a beautiful shape
In class today we talked about different spirals throughout the body while dancing and stretching. Anytime i think or hear the word spiral i always image a spiral staircase. Each step perfectly placed in order to create this symmetrical piece of architecture. I compare the to the human spine any time we are spiraling the torso. Each vertebrate in the spine is one step of the stair case. When you twist each vertebrate has a maximum turning point thus letting the next vertebrate to keep spiraling and so on. While focusing on this idea during our warm up, i discovered the more and more you twist the more vertebrate are active and it doesn't but continues up to the ceiling. Having the image continuing from the top of the head to the ceiling keeps alignment and posture straight so its a true spiral.
Not only in our warm up were there spirals but also within our movement a phrase we have built on the entire quarter. There’s a specific turn Luis puts spiraling as the overall idea for where the turn comes from and what it looks like. This turn is a cause and effect with the body. By taking your arm and tossing it across your body forcing your torso to turn. The effect is the torso turning and the rest of the body which includes the pelvis and free leg to follow and chase the original arm thrown. This chasing is why i reference to the spiral staircase, as each step up seems to be chasing each other. Each part of the spiral from the head to the toes is involved. Making sure the connection for each vertebrate is being focused on and the alignment is maintained.
