Shriv is a momma’s boy: “Had he told his life-giver what he planned to do, she would have hooted like a cloud ape and guilt-tripped him into staying even though he was already pushing thirty – he would always be her “little larva.” Although, his mother can be overbearing and overprotective. He was the baby in the family.
Shriv was born on Bburru Station, AKA Bburru City ( Duro’s new capital) and grew up walking through the artificial forests, gazing out through the transparent domes, longing to be a Luk, or pilot, though he lived on a level closer to the planet’s surface where the cities reactors and drive units were located, the generators for the planetary shields, and the cargo docks. You might say he’s “middle class.”
His first and only job was for CorDuro as a transport pilot; he thought he was helping to preserve what was left of Duro’s past by transporting priceless Durosian artifacts from the surface, although he was not entirely aware of CorDuro’s secret contracts involving smugglers and black-market consortiums. If someone would have told him that was their end game, honestly, he wouldn’t have been surprised.
Shriv met Lando when he was out on a job for CoreDuro. Lando parked the Falcon too close to Shriv’s Superluminal and scratched the hull. Words were exchanged, mostly on Shriv’s end. He found the man to be annoying though he rather enjoyed his droid, L3, but thought his cape was absolutely ridiculous. Later, when relaxing at a bar, he was forced to interact with Lando again against his wishes. “Oh great, you again. Lucky me.” - One of Lando’s many enemies approached them and assumed Shriv and Lando were “friends,” thus deciding that was a good enough reason to kill the Duros along with Calrissian. Shriv was forced to flee with the smuggler and fight back or die. Afterward, Lando told him he was a good shot and that he could use someone like him as a friend. He jokingly said sure, “look me up if you ever come to Duro” thinking Lando would never take him up on his offer. He couldn’t have been more wrong...
After seeing the Battle of Vnas first hand and the BTL Y-Wings in action, that’s when he decided he had to get “the kark out of here” and do something with his life.
Shriv is a loudmouth when intoxicated to the point of irritating people as what little filter he has disappears into the ether. Most of the time he stays away from alcohol, though he will partake - and he’s kind of a lightweight.
Shriv was told stories about cannibal arachnids when growing up - the very idea something like that existed terrifies him. Thank Maker they all went extinct before he was born…
Shriv has trouble controlling his inner monologue, which it rarely if ever shuts up - sometimes the bantha poodoo that pours out of his mouth gets him into heaps of trouble. It’s not his fault people don’t care for his candid conversation style.
It’s not that Shriv is negative per se, he’s just a realist. He doesn’t sugarcoat things. That’s part of his charm.
Shriv is terrible at comforting people because of this. He thinks he’s doing OK, but it’s obvious he’s said the wrong thing because you’ve started crying.
Shriv came up with the name “Danger Squadron” on a whim because he was asked to identify himself by Mon Mothma and it was the first thing he could think of. “Could have been a little more original, Suurgav.”
Shriv met Zeb on Dantooine, as well as the rest of the Spectres after escorting Mon Mothma to the surface before they returned to Lothal - that’s where he learned a cool new curse word: “karabast!”
Kanan and Ezra were the first Jedi’s Shriv ever met.
General Antoc Merrick was Shriv’s first “boss.” He asked to show him what he was made of and threw him in a ship he had never flown before - an RZ-1T A-Wing. Piece of cake.
Crix Madine saw potential in Shriv, and asked him to undergo a training regiment to try out of the Special Forces Pathfinders unit. It was quite plain that Shriv was a natural, especially with long-range weapons thanks to his precision eyesight. He was recommended for the Rebel Sharpshooters - Marksman division and quickly promoted to officer within their ranks.
Shriv was both in the navy and and the army of the Alliance to Restore the Republic - He made it to commander in the navy, as well as being an officer in the SPEC-Ops division of the army.
Shriv was given a few assignments to test his mettle between 1-0BBY, such as recruitment missions, or locating hard to find high profile targets for the rebellion in hopes of them joining the alliance. He also participated in some of the earliest organized attacks, like the Liberation of Gial Ackbar who was being held as a slave by Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin aboard his shuttle.
Shriv did not fly at the Battle of Yavin with Luke Skywalker because he was asked to assist in the preparations for the evacuation of Base 1 in the event he failed. He helped to dismantle and transport equipment in his Superluminal. It was during the next few days that followed that he intercepted a general distress call meant for Princess Leia from an Alderaanian Noblewoman he had met a year previous, though Leia had already left on her own mission to assist her people.
