Heads Up
Okay so I just had a kissing bug fly at my face, so I figured I’d warn my people on here. Last I heard, they were spreading up along the eastern coast of the US as well as in Texas and the Deep South, and they’re coming in full force this year.
There are different variations of the kissing bug, and they’re all just as leathal to you as they are to your pets. For humans, one bite from one of these little assholes can give you Chagas Disease which can cause swelling, a rash, swollen lymph nodes, a fever, head and body aches, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, as well as abdominal discomfort and swelling of the liver and/or spleen.
Eventually, Chagas can lead to irregular heart beats, fainting, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, emphysema, stroke, dilated colon, and sudden death.
They fly at your face (usually near your mouth, hence the name “kissing bug”) and can get inside your house to bite you while you’re asleep. And this goes for y’all’s pets and things too, so please be careful!
