assuming that in the age of stars ending the tarnished and ranni fuck off for a few millennia together imagine them tentatively building their relationship because. by this point honestly they haven't had much time or room for connection beyond what their duties called for
ranni telling the tarnished about her childhood in liurnia and how she, radahn and rykard used to be as kids, how the first thing she said when she got blaidd was Wolf! and that's how he got his name
okay but hear me out, firstprince who start out as tinder hookups. when they finish henry goes in his bag and pulls out a gold star that says ‘amazing orgasm giver’ and smacks it on Alex’s chest. Alex is immediately like “Really? Yes I am. I deserve this thank you :D” But then Alex would just be like “you carry them in your purse?” at Henry who scrunches his nose in disbelief and says “Yes of course, where else would I carry them?” and they would move on but 12 minutes later Alex would be like “okay you’re right where else would you carry them” and Henry would fall in love on the spot.
Ok, have been yapping about these points for a few days separately but haven't put them TOGETHER coherently, so...
The reason why I think a lot of people can misinterpret the trio's attitudes:
Mo and Yuko aren't selfish as some people especially on TikTok say. They just have very different lived experiences to Mia. I'd mentioned a good chunk of Mia's character is based on trying to do the right thing because she has this blind faith and love for her parents' teachings and the CONCEPT of Centopia as this good place she now has to fight to keep the way she was taught it was, but ALSO, soon after she starts helping out in Centopia, her motivations change to love for the elves instead of duty rather quickly.
Yuko is noted to be brave by Mia, as something she genuinely admires. The same could probably be said for Mo. Mia is a courageous person but is just not finding her footing in her new realities at first, and while I think her bravery comes from thinking the dangers through and then going through it rather than jumping headfirst, when she FIRST comes to Centopia she doesn't have a fighting bone in her body unless she's really forced into it. She's been beaten down by life, understandably, and could probably be fine with laying down and letting plants grow over her. The others give her a sense of purpose to start over again and actually fight tooth and nail for something.
Now, here's where I think some people misinterpret the characters: Mia doesn't turn into this endlessly selfless being that's used by the others. You could argue her emotional wellbeing, what little she has at the start, is heavily tied into Centopia being okay and that gives her a horse in the race rather than JUST helping for the sake of it even if centopia losing wouldn't affect her. It WOULD affect her. Yuko and Mo might not seem as... Emotionally 'invested' as her in certain points because, like at the start of season one when they rush to this doomed battle while she's scared they're going, they're fighting NOT to go through the kind of loss Mia has already experienced. They're different kinds of motivations. They haven't dealt with the full scope of harrowing loss and don't want it to happen, while Mia has and doesn't want to live through it AGAIN. The elves can have this hive mindset of 'if something bad happens we tried and all go together', like Mo saying something similar to comfort Mia. They wouldn't, for example, give up Onchao to the villains for her sake in season three and Gargona knows that, not because they don't love her but because even they know Mia would kill them for it. Onchao specifically is what her entire world spins around, that is her baby, but also they're all aware what they're choosing when they get so involved in the fight. Mia not once seems to resent them for it because she KNEW she was growing close to people who wouldn't always be able to put her first. She chose that knowing dying for them could be a very likely outcome, Mo didn't choose to be the prince or Yuko to have her home attacked. Again, Yuko and Mo are fighting from a still slightly ignorant view of what it would feel like to lose what you love most in the world for good.
Mia can seem more attached because this mentality, despite it being something she applies when Varia is captured and when she herself is, FAILS her when Yuko and Mo are in danger. Because she KNOWS fully how much it would hurt to lose them, she almost breaks immediately and wants to give Gargona the heart crystal when Mo is threatened in season 3. She will not actually beg or show much reaction when her own life is threatened but will gladly stomp and spit on her own pride if Onchao or the others are in danger. Because she knows she cannot possibly lose what gives her life meaning and purpose again, the others might live through losing her if she's one of their first permanent loses, but she would not be able to function or start all over again a third time.
Mia's bad experiences making her seem more desperate to keep them alive or at least have whatever fate they have isn't a purer form of love than Yuko and Mo having to stick to certain standards. Because that's more about what she's been through before them than their actual relationship in a vacuum. They would die for her individually, not being able to doom Centopia or having small disagreements when they're in their early teens and notably immature doesn't negate that. It's a terrible series of situations (ASOUE wink wink) and they're all doing what they think is best and reacting how they CAN based on their previous experiences.
Mia is this new person so they obviously won't get along the same way they do with each other. She's fighting to help them, sure, like a ton of other people fighting for their lives. And that doesn't replace spending time together and getting to know each other even if they trust her. Being from somewhere else and not having the same to lose or the same culture is going to make the start a little rocky. Doesn't make them terrible people, Mia isn't this perfect angel that always deserves to be worshiped for choosing to help them, they thank her and it's clear they care, but there doesn't need to be this extreme adoration some people want to see. Like I love her don't get me wrong and I'll always say she's a little angel jokingly, but she has her moments as well and ignoring that just to purify her kind of turns her into a Mary sue whose only flaw is being too good and that's just not true. Not even her motivations to initially help them were purely selfless. Centopia is this shiny new thing for her that gives her life meaning, they give her life meaning, of course she's bound to cling to them as soon as that bond forms. She did what she did to protect them not just out of altruism but because she gets attached to THAT point and that's OK. They're not just using her and she's not a perfect martyr.
