Dani in California (12)
Dani’s POV:
Everything was perfect. The turkey, the mashed potatoes, the salad, the pumpkin pie, they all were cooked to perfection. My parents gave me some wine as a gift so that my guests could drink even if I wouldn’t participate.
The doorbell rang and people came piling in.
First, Rachael came in and shortly after Harry, Niall, Liam, Zayn, and Louis. I invited a few of my girlfriends that didn’t have anywhere to go for the holiday so that the three other boys would have people to talk to.
The dinner was going pretty well. Everyone, mostly Niall, stuffed their faces and thanked me for the evening. As people kept drinking more and more (thanks to Rachael for bringing more booze), we all settled for a game of truth or dare, something that I have grown to like a little too much.
“Niall, truth or dare?” Louis asked.
“Dare!”
“I dare you to kiss Rachael.” Almost like it was planned, Niall kissed Rachael. It was puppy love, really. So adorable because they both obviously liked each other but were too afraid to say anything.
“Harry, truth or dare?” Niall asked
“Truth.”
“What is your favorite food?”
“That is such a horrible question but after this week, it is In-N-Out!” Harry said. All the California natives cheered at his love for our West-Coast staple. “Dani, truth or dare?”
“Dare, definitely” I said, remembering our first round of this game just a few days back.
“I dare you to take a shot!” Harry slurred.
I froze. He knew how I felt about drinking. I understand that he was drunk but really? Instead of yelling at him, I excused myself from the game to go take a walk.
Harry’s POV:
I really did it this time. I am such a fucking idiot. I tried running after her but I was hammered. I finally caught up to her on the pier where she sat on a park bench.
“Dani, I am so sorry.”
“Don’t be.” She sniffled. She was crying and it was all my fault.
“No, I should be because, because Dani, I love you.” I tried to get out.
“Harry, please don’t say that. You’re drunk, you don’t love me, and you’re leaving on Sunday and never seeing me after that. So please, don’t make those kinds of commitments when you know you can’t keep them.”
I was speechless. I didn’t know what to say. All of it was right, besides her assumption that I didn’t love her. What was I to say?
“So… What does this mean?” I stammered. I didn’t want to hear it.
“I just don’t think this is going to work in the long run, Harry. I have school, you have a career in ENGLAND and we’ve only known each other for less than 2 weeks. I won’t let you change your life for me, you have too much going for you. I—I’m sorry.”
And with that, she was gone.
