Sanglorian's absolutely killed it at our show at Old Town Pub last month with their indie yet radio friendly toe tapping tracks. We were fortunate enough to get a chance to talk to singer Daniel Brummel and this is what happened.
De La Vie TV: What does your band name mean and where does it come from?
Daniel Brummel: The word "Sanglorians" is on pg. 2 of Finnegan's Wake by James Joyce. It's a paradox in that it salutes those who shed blood and tears for glory, but also reminds us there's no glory to be had anywhere, that this is all a big game.
DLVTV: What is the songwriting process like within the band?
DB: Usually I write the skeletal structures and bring them to the band for arrangement. At that point, they begin to take on new life and energy, and together we find the hidden moments of power within the matrix of each song.
DLVTV: What's next for the band?
DB: We've got a show at Los Globos on Oct. 9, and we're almost ready to start work on our second studio album!
DLVTV: Favorite venue in L.A. and why? DB: Any venue that lets us play! We had a fantastic run at the Bootleg, also lots of great shows at the Satellite, El Cid, Los Globos, Pehrspace, and Old Towne Pub. We'd really like to play the Troubadour soon.
DLVTV: If you could open a show for any band or songwriter out there today who would it be and why? DB: I think we'd do well opening for Arcade Fire because there are some similarities in our approach. Might be a longshot, but we can dream!!!
Check out Sanglorians here and be sure to catch them at Los Globos October 9 with Coyote, Roger Sellers, and Modern Kin
