Run River North Return to New York City to Headline Rough Trade NYC
Originally a six-piece named Monsters Calling Home, Alex Hwang (vocals and guitar), Daniel Chae (guitar and vocals) and Sally Kang (keys and vocals) now make up the Los Angeles folk-pop trio Run River North. Despite the changes, they continue to make a bigger name for themselves with each successive release. They’ve put out two long-players, 2014’s Run River North (stream it here) and the 2016 follow-up, Drinking from a Salt Pond (stream it here). And last year the three-piece released a pair of companion EPs, Monsters Calling Home, Vol. 1 (stream it here) and Monsters Calling Home, Vol. 2 (stream it here). “The EP takes the foundation of the last album and also adds an evolution of the band’s sound. With three members, it might have been possible that the signature style might be lost, but the opposite has happened. The music feels more open and free,” offers Korean Indie of the former. “The five-track EP, which dropped on 11/1, is reminiscent of early 2000s post-punk revival bands like the Strokes, but with a more modern twist,” says Character Media of the latter, going on to make comparisons to Pharrell and Arctic Monkeys. Now, having just kicked off a new tour last week, Run River North return to NYC to headline Rough Trade NYC on Friday night.
