UFC News: Anderson Silva Replaces Jon Jones? Fight Against Daniel Cromier
Following Jon Jones’ depressing positive drug test, Daniel Cromier will still remain on the UFC 200 card. But this time, Anderson Silva steps in to have non-title light heavyweight fight.
Last June 16, the fighters took the drug test conducted by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. Yesterday, the test yielded positive results disqualifying Jon Jones from the fight.
In the aftermath, the whole UFC management scrambled to look for alternatives. The show must go on but they did not know how.
Bleacher Report mentions that this whole incident will greatly affect Daniel Cromier mentally, physically and even financially. “This pay-per-view is trending to be massive, and he shares revenue, so it’s devastating to him in every way it could possibly be” says UFC president, Dana White.
The supposed fight between Jones and Cromier gained so much hype this past week. Cromier himself looked forward to this rematch avenging himself from his loss against Jones the past year. He had an almost flawless record of 17-1 with Jones being the only stain in it.
With Jones disqualified, White announces that Silva will instead fight Cromier, as per ESPN. Whether Anderson Silva is a good replacement, White says that Silva “is undefeated at 205, and not just undefeated, but devastatingly undefeated”.
Silva fought twice while at 205 pounds. He went up against Forrest Griffin in August 2009 and Stephen Bonnar in October 2012. The Spider won both matches in the first round.
At age 41 with a record of 33-6, Silva undeniably proves to be a great fighter. Although the hype will not be the same, it is still “an interesting, fun fight” says White.

The UFC became lucky when Silva agreed despite being on a short notice. The fight will only last 3 rounds. And Silva still needs to go through medical clearance but White assumes that the result is negative.
