I was reading your authors commentary.. “That might be something to bond over later on! Shimada’s gay!” Is that why McCree later said that he was once a skinny twink in front of Hanzo? Lol. Also I’m glad the fact that Hanzo’s gay is kind of a surprise to him because in many other fics, unrealistically, everyone is gay or bi and it’s more out of the ordinary to be straight. Which is nice for representation I guess but it just doesn’t feel believable.
Well, it was Fareeha who called McCree a skinny twink first--but he did repeat it just in case Hanzo thought Fareeha meant it as an insult rather than an affectionate reminder born out of shared history. He hadn’t really planned on playing the LGBT+ Solidarity card with Hanzo quite yet since he didn’t really know where Hanzo stood, but he took the opportunity since there were two other members of the community there, plus Lena in the Orca.
And yes, since Afterdrop is meant to be slightly more realistic, I’m not going with the “Everyone is Gay” trope--as much as I’d like to. The sentence “He [Reinhardt] is 100% straight” killed me to write, because I like wish fulfillment as much as anyone and I can only wish for such a man.
But a lot of Hanzo and McCree’s backstories in the fic are based on a more realistic proportion of LGBT+ people and how that affects us.
But when I say a realistic proportion, it means I’m gonna take great pleasure in having far more LGBT+ people than most people are willing to admit exist.
are any other characters in afterdrop going to be queer?
Yup!!! We’ve already met a ton of them! McCree has revealed who two of them are in Ch. 22 (plus Lena, but she’s CANON canon baby), and we’ve already met two more who prefer to tell people themselves--and they will tell Hanzo, so don’t worry!
And that’s only among the people we’ve already met.
That McCree knows of.
We’re coming. All of us.
I'm curious to see where you'll go with reaper. I admit, so far I've found his portrayal in afterdrop to be somewhat 2-dimensional compared to other characters'. I wouldn't read over 300000 words by just anyone tho and I have faith that that won't stay the case. I know it's probably hard to give him good characterization considering his canon lord is such a contradictory shitshow, but reducing him to a Guy Who Just Turned Evil For No Reason would be a huge disservice to what we know of him
I feel like that ask about reaper may have come off really harsh and I didn't realise until after I sent it? if it did, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it as an idiot meant of your writing skills or your interpretation of the character. I was just reading ch. 21 today and it struck me how vague and unhelpful the canon you're working with is and how it must be incredibly difficult to wring actual characters from it and how I hope you'll do it for reaper as well as you've done it for everyone else
It was a little bit harsh, Anon! Especially since he’s been in literally one chapter and said only twelve words so far. Give it time!
But I agree--if he turned evil for no reason, it would be a huge disservice, which is why so many in Overwatch simply didn’t believe it. When McCree says he thought Gabe had been framed? He wasn’t alone in thinking that, and you can tell who agrees with him. It just doesn’t make sense.
Yet there he is, fighting alongside Talon, trying to reactivate an Omnium, leaving his protegé behind to die. His intentions look questionable at the moment, so you can forgive Hanzo (and McCree) for assuming the worst.
McCree in particular has a very good reason to be pissed at him--more than one good reason in fact, but more on that later.
But give it time! Things will develop.
ANNNNNND DONE
So, I just answered most of my backlog in my inbox from the past two or three weeks.
I apologize for leaving so much of it for so long, but I wasn’t feeling up to it until now–I’ll try not to let that happen too often, because I truly appreciate your messages! Thank you for putting up with me!
I didn’t reply to everything, especially the comments about the latest chapter of Afterdrop, but I want you all to know that I’m grateful for all your words and encouragement!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!!
If you’d like to avoid the flood, I’ve tagged everything with “Daniel Finally Replies”, so you can blacklist it and skip over everything!
Behold your legacy.... Afterdrop and that one vampire post

It’s true
My favorite part of your vampire post is that you only tagged as personal, which my brain jumps to you being so ofended by these messy boys that you are by passing the morally grey dietary needs. You will make your point and if your their next victim you will correct their etiquette till your dying breath xD
AND HOW
Me, dying: CLOSE YOUR MOUTH
I started working on a fic approximately three Afterdrop chapters ago and I have 5,000 words haha. 16,000 words for one chapter is a LOT
But It’s Never Enough
Not to knock on your progress, though, Anon! It’s never enough and yet always enough, which is the weirdest part about fiction. Any amount is more than nothing, which is worth celebrating! Thank you for the encouragement, and I return it wholeheartedly: keep on writing! 5,000 words is a lot!! Great work!! Keep going!!
