Islands may have sunk in comparison to the most of the 80's discography by Mike Oldfield, yet that record feels like a great work in comparison to Earth Moving. Mr. Oldfield lacks the ease he deploys so well on this LP. Actually, he struggles to achieve what he did before with the form of a pop song, but the reasn could be he became detached from the genre at that point. However, some compositions on Earth Moving overcome his disinterest and the one in the link is a good case of that. Then again, the ditty remains bittersweet, since we hear the end of his musical partnership with Maggie Reilly, which also got him through the 80's. While we cannot say they left at the top, this ballad's quality does not reach their best, they at least finished solidly.
