“You didn’t have to stay here.” You say and blink sleepily at him. Your eyes are burning and you pull the sheets higher up over your shoulders. You know you are a pitiful sight right now but he keeps smiling at you like he does when you look your best.

He sits down on the edge of the bed and gently lets his fingers run through your hair. His touch is very soothing against your aching head. You lean into his touch and sniffle into your tissue.

“I know. But I couldn’t leave you like this. I made you some tea.” He says and puts the steaming cup down on the night stand. You cough and hear your rattled breathing and hope whoever he was suppose to meet would understand that he cancelled at the last minute.

“It also helps that I’m their superior.” He says and his large and gentle hands help you to sit up. He even holds up the trash can for you so you can throw away your tissue before grabbing a new one.

“Thank you.” You murmur with your raspy voice and smile at him. It felt so nice to be cared for this way. His smile soothes your little aches. The tea warms you up from the inside and you don’t resist when he makes you lie down again and covers you under blankets. You are freezing and sweating at the same time.

And he doesn’t move away. He lets you rest your head against his thigh and caresses your hair gently, his fingertips massaging your skin carefully.

You close your eyes again. You just feel weak. You don’t even mind him seeing you like this. You know that he won’t think any less of you.

“Sorry. I just reached for the book.” He says and lets his fingertips run along your temple.

You sigh quietly and yawn. “You need some rest.” He says. “You should try to get some sleep. That’s the best medicine.”

“Hmm. Can you read out loud.” You say and wipe your nose again. You can hear the smile in his voice when he clears his throat and starts to read.

His voice is as soothing as his touch. It flows over you. It sounds like velvet brushing against your body. You shiver under your blankets and he lets his hand rest on your shoulders. His fingers slide over them in the rhythm of the words.

You don’t even follow them. You just listen to his voice. Let is wrap you in a warm and caring embrace. Let them soothe you. And pull you under.

You sigh. You fall asleep to the wonderful warm sound of his voice. You know he’ll still be there when you wake up again. With a new cup of tea and a new pack of tissues... the thought makes you happy, makes you feel better already...

The Christmas lights hanging in the trees are guiding you home. You almost feel their warmth as you wander through the quiet streets. The city is finally slowing down. Just one more hour and it will be Christmas Day. You look at the man walking beside you.

You feel your heart racing. “Yes.” You murmur and swallow hard. This is still so fresh between you. But you know what you want. You wanted to be in his arms ever since you have seen him. And you got the chance now so you will grab it with both hands and hold onto it.

You open the door to your flat and he follows you. He seems to belong there. He doesn’t look out of place at all. He sits down and you serve the wine. And the food. He looks beautiful in the candlelight.
