“Broke….. what?” The elder Maduro child had been far too focused on the reading in front of him, nothing too impressive but just about the ever growing pace of technology, as he found himself nested in their father’s home. It was his sister’s words which instantly caused him to differ from the jumble of words near the end of the article. Hues locked into a tight shut, sighing heavily after he wasted nearly ten minutes reading. “That article is fucking awful,” he declared, having instantly forgotten what his sister shared with him. “I felt like I just read an article talking about which phone company should I invest my money in? The argument of iPhone and those Android phones have been going on since 2012. Why was it necessary in this article?” Pushing himself off the couch, dropping the magazine on the coffee table as he finished off his rant. A huff of breath fell off his lips, wondering why there had been silence from his younger sister’s behalf. “Dani?” He spoke once more, wondering if everyone had left the house. Their dad decided to dip out for the evening to play poker and told his kids to do the same. In all honesty, he didn’t really want to go anywhere.. not even his home. Though, he could easily throw himself into work which he fell off the bandwagon and grew distracted from focusing on it. Entering into the kitchen, he saw the back sight of his sister remaining still, causing him to take position right beside here. There rested the cookie jar from their childhood. The last remaining piece of their mother which dragged on with them from each move.
“Fuck, yeah, that’s broken,” slipped right off, having always been the type to cuss in any given situations when kids weren’t present. He was the best of figure when it came to figures. Asking him for advice? Truthfully, that should’ve been something that crossed someone’s mind to trust Porter with helping them with advice in their life. Though now, he had never expected the last chapter of their mother to remain on the floor. The item from their childhood had remain off on the counter, even touching it felt like a burning sensation underneath his fingertips. It was truly the end of the other woman’s appearance in the world. The same woman who shook up his life three years ago, going around Europe in attempt to mend the broken pieces of his families life. For all three of them to finally move forward from her disappearance nearly two decades ago. To get answers and to stop living in the commitment fears which unfortunately ran through their family. Part of him was relieved it was gone. He didn’t have anymore words to say to the woman but he didn’t know how Dani would handle it. She knew where he disappeared to for three years but did she understand? Would she gladly move on? He cared about her feelings but also, he knew they all festered in their mother’s mess for years too many. At this rate, their father was crippling but he was attempting to hide it better than any of them on top of his recent illness. “Good,” he was lifted from silence, oceanic hues bouncing toward his younger sister. It was a straightforward response, careless but this was his mood constantly. “I’ll take the blame if Dad asks what happened to it. But, it’s about fucking time we’re getting rid of her fully.” Falling into a deep web of silence, he bent down and started picking up the large pieces which the vacuum wouldn’t be able to pick up.
After he gathered them, he tossed him into the garbage before standing up, once more shooting a look over Dani. “We’ll just buy another one?” It wouldn’t replace what their mother burned in their hues. But, it was close enough. It could possibly take their father a few day to properly realize or maybe he’ll never comment in the first place. With his older brother instincts, naturally cleaning up the mess and taking the possible blame was everything Porter was willing to do in the moment. Though, as he took a moment to stand and collect what happened, his arm wrapped around his sister, pulling her into a side embrace before sighing. “I know I suck… with talking about my feelings and whatnot. Doesn’t mean you have to ever be like that.” Lingering for another moment longer, he sighed before in his typical nature, he attempted to find humor in the moment. “Should we just start breaking things in dad’s place to lessen the blow? Remember that Christmas dish he’s been obsessed with since we were kids. One he always served turkey on? I think he found it at a flee market or something like that. It’s so fucking hideous. I’m not artist but I know how to critique. And, it’s fucking awful.” Playfulness was evident through his tone, brows bouncing in a joking manner but if Dani dropped the word right here and now, he’d search to add another disaster of a piece disappearing in their life as well. Two hits in one day, as he thought.
