The Murder of Chelsea Bruck
Chelsea Bruck was a 22-year-old from Michigan. She worked at a local restaurant and planned to go to college and study for a culinary degree.
On 25th October 2014, Chelsea attended a Halloween party dressed as the character Poison Ivy. She was last seen leaving the party at around 3 am the next day but was never heard from again. After a 6 month search, Chelsea's remains were found in April 2015 in a wooded area 12 miles away from the place she was last seen. She had died from blunt force trauma. Evidence was collected from her torn leggings which were later found nearby, they had the DNA of an unknown male.
In July 2016, 27-year-old Daniel Clay was charged in an unrelated sexual conduct case and his DNA was taken. This DNA linked Clay to Chelsea's murder and he was arrested. Clay's girlfriend told the press that he had confessed to the crime.
Daniel Clay was charged with murder and concealment of a body. He claimed he had killed Chelsea but that it had been an accident during rough but consensual sex. The jury did not believe his account; he was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. The prosecutor stated, "A fair examination of the facts of the evidence proves the defendant murdered Chelsea, not by some erotic asphyxia, by multiple blunt force traumas to her face."
