Correspondant 15 - Naum Gabo feat. Capablanca "Embargo Barco"
Well known for its highly idiosyncratic blend of hard- hitting prime time movers, Glasgow-based production duo NAUM GABO returns to the international dance floors with EMBARGO BARCO, a dripping slice of raw club activism sure to split many a forehead. With impelling vocals by electronic flaneur CAPABLANCA and a surprising funk remix by mutant disco revivalist DANIEL MALOSO, this makes for a slick package more than ready for mayhem. Production buddies JAMES SAVAGE and JONNIE WILKES (of OPTIMO fame) are no strangers to music with an impact, as NAUM GABO’s small-but-rather- effective discography spanning diverse labels such as SPEICHER/KOMPAKT, ENDLESS FLIGHT or FRIGHT RECORDS undoubtedly proves. Self-assured in their approach and playful in their execution, both are seasoned producers who know how to tweak a simple bassline until it roars. The bleepy EMBARGO BARCO is no exception, the duo’s first foray into CORRESPONDANT territory, and with the deployment of CAPABLANCA’s slightly lunatic vocals, this track aims at starting no less than a riot on the floor. EMBARGO BARCO is one of those rare tracks that uses ist vocals exceptionally well, but also works as an instrumental, thanks to a suitably simple arrangement going for maximum effect. Coming at you with baring beats and grinding synths, both the original and the intrumental version cut through the crowd like a knife through butter, making you an offer you cannot refuse, massacre style. Cómeme’s DANIEL MALOSO takes a different road with his remix, opting for a heavy-duty funk treatment instead. Twisting and shouting its way through the original material, this revamp is quite a surprise and adds some sultry zest to an already spicy meal.
