After Keene's Law is passed and there are no more costumed heroes (as far as legally speaking), Dan and Miah suddenly gained a lot more free time. Dan liked to spend his nights visiting his mentor, and Miah usually spent time illustrating for editorial jobs he picked up. However, should Dan ever had nothing else planned, he liked to call Miah up. Would you like to come over? I can help transport your supplies. No, really, I don't mind. It's not like Rorschach has spoken to me lately. You wouldn't be disrupting anything. I think my favorite radio show is on tonight... Talking himself in circles while Miah is busy packing up his inks and trying not to spill them. They don't do much once at Dan's place, usually just doing their own hobbies in the same room with occasional conversation. The slowness is good.

Even though Dan isn't an ornithologist, he has a lot of friends who are because of his interests. Miah's favorite "date" or "getaway" with him was when a colleague asked for Dan to house sit his property in Northern New York. Dan invited Miah and their close friend Laurie along so he wouldn't be spending a week in the mountains alone. They all needed a break from someone; Dan from Rorschach, Miah from Adrian, and Laurie from Manhattan. The house and the mountains surrounding were beautiful. For the first time in what felt like forever, Miah got to see the night sky sparkle, go to sleep to the sound of owls and wake up to bird songs. Dan, of course, standing next to him and trying not to brush their hands, would tell him about every single one. Miah never got tired of it.

Miah met Nite Owl when he was invited to a greatly misrepresented meeting of "Like-minded people" by Ozymandias. He didn't think much of him, instead staying close to the only girl around his age. Miah met Dan months later. During an encounter with the Twilight Lady's goons, Miah was stabbed and needed emergency stitches. Sitting on Dan's kitchen counter, he took in the collection of bookshelves and beautiful paintings in there and the living room next door. He struggled staying serious while his stab wound was sterilized, much to Dan's protests. Laying there was when he saw Nite Owl without the mask for the first time. He was cute, all things considered. Tired brown eyes and tussled dark hair that stuck to his forehead. Too bad he knew he was going to forget it in the morning. During a sting operation and a tentative allyship, Twilight Lady apologized to Miracle Worker for the incident. Nite Owl didn't speak to me for a month afterwards. A month!
