jake was a creature of habit and ever since he’d got his job at the bakery he’d kept the same hours, with the same lunch breaks for good reason. when the time came he’d slip out a couple pastries made by himself, both of which he’d set aside earlier so nobody could claim he was stealing, then he’d pay for one coffee and take two before he headed out, got into his car and drove to the school to see his friend. he’d always been selective when it came to his inner circle, never quite knowing who to let get too close or whom to trust, but it had been easy with danny. their friendship had been casual, no more than two people exchanging short talk and coffee on the odd occasion up until danny had had his accident.
he’d never been the type to just stand back and his immediate reaction had been to check in on danny. at first he’d stopped by offering him snacks that were far better than any hospital food he’d be given, then he’d stay and talk and over time the two of them grew close which led them to this. His usual plan meant grabbing food and finding danny - frankly there was nothing else he’d rather be doing either.
“ knock knock, ” jack tapped his knuckles against the door frame as he lent against it before stepping inside. “ i bring pastries and coffee as usual, i had an older lady glare at me i think she thought i was stealing, that or she just really loves my pastries. ” he winked at his friend as he came to perch himself on the end of the desk. “ have the kids given you a headache yet? I know i’ve got one. ”
