By the time they find an empty bench, Steve’s ice cream is starting to melt. He doesn’t particularly care - not even if it gets on his suit or makes his hands sticky. It’s worth it, because Billy’s here with him, and the world seems to have slowed down, just for a second. Just to let him savour the moment.
This is what Steve wants to remember when he thinks of them.
He wants to close his eyes and see Billy smiling, head thrown back, as golden as the sun. He wants to remember the sky, impossibly blue. The way the ice cream tastes, the cold against his tongue. He wants to think of them and feel deliriously free, like he has nowhere else to be and they have all the time in the world. He wants to hear Billy’s laugh, feel his hand burning against his shoulder, look into his eyes and see the possibility, the promise, of a future.
Steve doesn’t want to think of them as something broken, doesn’t want to remember the way he felt when he made the decision to break it off. He doesn’t want to remember the way Billy’s voice had gone soft that night, doesn’t want to remember all the nights he spent crying at parties where he didn’t know anyone.
He wants to think of Billy, happy and carefree, against the Californian sun.

okay, a fun fact about myself... i organize my books by colour!! i just love the aesthetic and the gradient,,, so pleasing,,,
my current (and all-time) favourite marvel character is bucky barnes, and he would absolutely, 100% wear those booty shorts. hot pink, glittery, ‘the bastard is driving’ on the back, but he’d wear them on missions to confuse the enemy.
also, take the time to imagine that portal scene in endgame, except everyone is wearing the booty shorts. including captain america himself. they just defeat thanos with the power of twink fashion.
