I am VERY glad that you appointment went well. You are still in my prayers that you will out do the cancer. I'm not sure what the "proper" term is for defeating cancer. My understanding is that the best is remission. Cancer is such a scourge but I don't have to tell you that. I have lost several close ones to it. I found out over the week that the wife of a close friend is stage four liver, kidney and lungs and this the first that they knew of it. Please, help me understand Vulvar cancer. Thanks
well - i posted a graphic on my page today defining vulvar cancer symptoms - it usually starts with a change in the cells of the vulva - the labia majora, labia minora, perineum and can become invasive moving deep into the tissue to infect the lymp system in your upper thighs. for me it’s been surface ulcerations, pain, itching and bleeding - that need to be surgically removed - because it is as of yet an external cancer - and hasn’t progressed deep into my tissue or lymph system, surgery has been the cure - last surgery = a wide excision (vulvectomy) in 2011 was effective and got clean margins so chemo wasn’t necessary, thank God. however sadly this cancer comes back - with a vengeance, but because i’ve finally been properly diagnosed and treated (after years of being misdiagnosed by several gyns btw) i have frequent check ups with my GNY oncologist - the return has been caught early and we’re hoping that it hasn’t progressed to a level of carcinoma but will only be VIN I, II or III, (Vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) refers to particular changes that can occur in the skin that covers the vulva. there is a high chance that cancer will develop and so it is referred to as a precancerous condition that frequently requires surgery.) That would be great because that would mean odds of recurrence would be somewhat lessened. I am in a support group with several women, many of whom had to undergo chemo and radiation and also have had their upper thighs removed where it had progressed into their lymph systems. It is terrifying the prospect and what these ladies have endured. My vulvectomy was excruciating and it has left the most intimate part of my body maimed. The prospect of another one, I’ll confess, is terrifying - but hopefully this one won’t need to be as extensive and so recovery hopefully will be easier. I will not be one of the several ladies that I have watched succumb to this cancer and lose their lives because I have good care and early detection. I hope this information has helped.
