Dansoz, has your research turned up any particularly interesting results so far?

"The number of living trolls with major noticeable mutations has gone up, and even ones with detrimental mutations are finding ways to survive.

It's an exciting finding in itself, but it's actually the implications that actually pique my interest more, due to my love for speculative evolution.

Trolls are always changing, and though true evolution can only occur over thousands of sweeps, perhaps we are seeing the beginnings of some kind of great shift. Perhaps several thousands of sweeps in the future, we'll see a world where it is the norm for trolls to be digitigrade. Or perhaps we'll become able to withstand the harsh Alternian sun better.

Of course, evolution typically occurs when there's some sort of natural pressure on species, so I'm not betting on any of that, especially since mutations are random. Still. It's fascinating to think about. I hope more trolls with obvious macro mutations make it to adulthood and pass on their interesting genes."

"Anyways, that's only in regard to macro mutations-- big, noticeable ones that someone could get culled for. But if we consider both macro and micro mutations, we're technically all mutants. All trolls have hundreds of mirco mutations. If you can drink milk without getting a stomach ache, congratulations, you're a mutant. Lactose tolerance is a mutation. As is having a fingerprint. And fingernails. And having less hair on your hand than your head. Trolls, like every other creature, are simply the culmination of billions of years of mutations.

The distinction between mutant and non-mutant is nonexistent, and is really only a concept that the empire made up to keep us under their thumb. The separation between those with macro mutations and those without is just propaganda.
