😆😆😆I'm sorry, the sexism isn't funny but I laughed. He probably did very much expect to be taken care of by the women around him, but I think he also had an appreciation for women's investment in the Revolution; not exactly a gold star feminist, but what do I know, I've been busy with the laundry

So what does everyone think of Herr Robespierre who likes his shirts ironed nicely? He is kinda statuesque!

Dantonist Trial Anniversary Movie Watch Party Announcement

A few days ago i suggested a watch party on Sunday April 5th, as a way to connect the frev community around one of the many movie adaptations of our favorite historical time period. Thank you to everyone who voted on the time slot poll! To those who can’t make it this Sunday, hopefully we’ll have many more watch parties in the future for you to take part in so do not despair..! Most interested people seem available Sunday Morning (Paris time) so here is the announcement. Mark your calendars 🎉

Date: Sunday April 5th, from 9am (Paris time) to 10:30am

Movie: Danton (1931), dir. Hans Behrendt, German audio, English subtitles (Letterboxd page)

I will post a link to the online watch room on tumblr on the day of the watch party, keep an eye on here! There will be a chat function in the room, please be respectful of each other and open-minded about the movie as some elements may be dated and/or biased. Let’s also try to keep the talk relevant to the movie itself. Although chatting is encouraged, it’s also totally fine to just watch and not take part in the conversation.

Singing Camille in the early 20th century Frev movies

I found Camille is engaged with music in some French Revolution movies made in early 20th century.

In Danton (1921), he sings a song with a guitar that mock Robespierre and Saint-Just, and gets the crowd erupting.

In Napoléon (1927), he was the first to realize how great "La Marseillaise" was. He read the score and found the song to be wonderful.

In Danton (1931), he performs an original song to celebrate Danton's marriage. This Camille (looks rather like Fabre d'Églantine) is a most devoted friend and I was angry with Danton for almost neglecting him during the film. Far different from the outrageous spoiled brat in Danton (1983). This is an early talkie, so perhaps it was challenging attempt to include a singing scene.

It is interesting to see him associated with music, even if not always historically accurate. Camille enjoying music is fascinating. I wish he could be in future media.
