In September, Fightstar frontman CHARLIE SIMPSON announced that he would be playing the World’s Coldest Gig in November, by playing a 15 minute set in the world’s coldest permanently inhabited place, Oymyakon, Siberia.
Well, he’s done it, and you can find an awesome picture of him with Raw Power’s Tristan Lillingston in this week’s Music Week mag!
The Ice Cold Gig, which was sponsored by Jägermeister, was performed in -30° temperatures, and included 15 minutes of songs from his debut solo album ‘Young Pilgrim' which was produced by Danton Supple. Performing at such cold temperatures meant that Charlie managed to break the Guinness World Record for Coldest Gig Ever Played. There’s a fantastic article on the CMU website, which you can access here.
Although Charlie had the opportunity to gig where no one has ever gigged before, it did come with a few risks. Since he had to play guitar without gloves on, there was high chance of frostbite, and that the guitar might break due to the extreme cold. Luckily, no frostbite or broken guitar for Charlie Simpson!
Congratulations on your world record Charlie!!!
“This has been a trip of a lifetime and a gig unlike anything I thought I’d ever experience in my career. The town has no TV or radio, so they’ve had little to no contact with rock music before. This was definitely a world first in many respects!” Charlie Simpson talking to CMU
