A few words with.... Billy Danze (M.O.P)
I had the pleasure of seeing M.O.P do their thing at Jazz Cafe on Wednesday for the second time in 6 months and believe me they have one of the best shows I've seen. Their energy, enthusiasm and ability to get the crowd hype is second to none. You can expect to go there, crack up at their jokes, have a few shots of liquor poured for you and just zone out to some of the talent of the rawest guys the hip hop scene has ever known. I was lucky enough to catch Mr Danze for a few quick questions about his upcoming solo release, the new M.O.P. album and what they like about performing in London.
So you’ve got a solo release coming out soon called Behind Gates.. What’s it about?
Well with Behind Gates, I felt like myself and my people (friends and family) we are in our own world its different subliminal, you know what I’m sayin? Like theres a lot of people in prison that we still want them to know that we aint forgot about them. We still here for you even though you may have made a lil mistake in your lifetime, we know you there.
What producers are you gonna have on there?
I got the producers from WeBuildHits.com - I've got Lil Fame of course, D/R Period, Rich Kidd, Doc Ish, Heat Makerz, so we got a lot of people and we still building!
Can we expect any features?
Right now it’s just Fame! I’m just focussing on getting the main songs done and then I’ll drag on a few features, there are always people there who wanna jump on a track, so I do what I gotta do first.
BrownsVILLAINZ is meant to the be next M.O.P release… is that coming out?
Yeah! We're just about finished. Basically, we are gonna wait till we finish the project till we give a release date cause we don’t want no forced shit as far as our releases are goin on. I don’t wanna upset my people, wanna make sure they getting the real me especially lookin at the past few years. You know what I mean?
On a different note; what do u think of the London scene?
I LOVE IT, IT’S FUCKIN AMAZIN!
You guys said you’re used to performing in front of 25k people, so what’s it like to be somewhere as small as Jazz Café?
Yeah, I love it, because it’s like we are right here and we can do shows where it feels like we at a party. We wanna get everybody involved, you know what I’m sayin? Don’t wanna just be on stage rappin.. C’mon dude! What am I, just another rapper?! We don’t even consider our fans ‘fans’ we consider them family because you gotta be really down with MOP to be rockin. It’s like you’re here and we got those cute lil white girls, the homie in a wheelchair, the nice ladies, guys, EVERYBODY. It's just pure MOP fans and I LOVE IT!
