She’d dreamed of Emmrich, informing her that the Liches had arranged a meeting for her. Robed figures who called themselves the Executors had revealed how she’d made it to the Necropolis as a child. Told her that they’d plucked her from the Fade, placed her in the crypts, set her on a path of their own making to restore what they had lost. Told her that the Void had used her connection with Spite as a bridge into Thedas, that she needed to go back to the time before Solas’s ritual, and do it all again. And then, they had left her with a final instruction before waking:  Leave the Crow. Spite must not find you.

Even in her dream, she’d lunged for her mageknife at that, plunged her hands into the Fade with an echoing “NO.” There is no realm — dream or otherwise — in which she’d obey that command.

When the Executors send Daphne Ingellvar back in time to relive the events of her time with the Veilguard, they forbid her from doing one thing: saving Lucanis from the Ossuary.

a cold wind whispering is the first part of my Hunger Games AU!! been plugging away at it slowly (after declaring Many times it will be ready to post "soon"), and we're currently at scene where Game Master!Lucanis asks Victor!Daphne to help with the revolt

Lucanis wastes no time in answering, braces himself against the countertop between them, leaning in close. She’s tempted to slip out of her seat, take a step back. She holds his gaze instead, tries not to flinch when he says, “Arainai has been arranging a way to break the Games and take down Valmont for nearly a decade. Your sister’s name slip was given to me by him, to return to you. He’s hoping you’ll accept it as a peace offering. That you’ll want to help.” “If you want me scared,” she murmurs absently, and it feels like the words are coming from somewhere other than her own mouth, “there were easier ways to accomplish that.” If she agrees, he can flip the script, threaten to report her to Valmont and get her begging and pleading and agreeing to do anything he’d like to prevent that. She doesn’t have a choice to begin with, of course; the attempt to get her crawling for him with a storyline like this has a certain cruelty she should have expected from him, given his reputation. Biting back won’t do her any favors, but she can’t help it, can feel her mouth opening for another retort, another challenge. Before she can speak, Lucanis says, “I don’t want you scared, Daphne,” his voice soft, cradling her name like he’s unsure he’s allowed to use it. It makes her throat seize, steals her next words.

The first time Daphne realizes that she Wants a relationship with Lucanis, even with everything he's got going on?

It’s simmering for a while, I think, but Daphne wanted out of the Necropolis so badly in her youth that she spent her whole life shutting down any sort of emotional attachment. She’s sentimental and sensitive and knew if she got attached, she’d find it hard to leave the Mourn Watch and pursue anything else. So she purposefully kept things easy and light and if it went further than that, it was because it was with someone outside of the Necropolis, but she got scared and fled from that too.

But Lucanis is the first person she meets after leaving with Varric, after she’s been offered a little more freedom to choose what she wants in her own life, and she’s not sure what to do with those feelings if her usual method of “ball them up into a little knot and shove them somewhere deep in my gut” isn’t as appealing an option as it once was. So she ignores it.

Until the Almost Kiss in the pantry when it all just bursts open inside of her and she can’t ignore it. She’s giving in for the first time and then, Lucanis pulls away.

So she busts down Davrin’s door and is like “I need you to talk me out of something”, and Davrin just calmly is like “Yeah I don’t think there’s talking you out of this one, let’s go to Arlathan and chop some wood about it, I need more carving supplies anyway.”
