Here’s a Drabble for you friends!
His skin is silk. That’s what I register, my fingers scrabbling weakly against the huge wraith. Is that what he is? I’m sorry. My thoughts are so scattered. Shattered, maybe, is a better way to describe it. Any cohesive thing in my head is broken, glass across the ground. It’s digging into my legs, actually. It’s cut the fabric. It’s in my hand. Somewhere far away I feel my blood slickening the broken glass that my hand digs into. He threw me through my window. Smoke man. A vampire.
I️ laugh derisively at the one thing that actually crosses my mind, the one thing. Vampire. Like some kind of movie thing. Cheesy. This isn’t a movie though, this is real life. Is i️t? Am I actually here, the life drained out of me? That’s what i️t feels like. A pulling from my chest. But no blood leaves my body except in my hand.
It’s dark. It’s so dark. So cold. I️ close my eyes agains i️t, a deep breath rattling my chest. I’m not afraid, though. This has been going on too long to be afraid. Twenty, thirty minutes? Three hours? Five days?
“Can you get me a blanket?”
My voice is so soft, barely there. A wheeze, a whisper.
Suddenly the tug on me stops. I manage a rattling breath and the smoke lightens.
The voice is gravelly, rough, irritated. With a bit of surprise in there. I️ doubt he has many victims asking him for warmth.
“I-“ I cough, and taste copper. Another gasping breath. “Please.”
The weight on top of me is gone. So is most of the cold. Instinctively I shiver, my weak body pulling itself into the fetal position. My heartbeat feels faint. My eyes close again, preparing myself for the pressing, suffocating chill on top of me.
Something heavy and slightly warm covers me. I️t feels like leather. My fingers clutch i️t weakly, and I look up incredulously, eyelids fluttering.
A shadowy figure stands over me. Grey, silvery armor covers a black body. I can’t see its face.
A smile struggles its way across my face. “Thank you,” I whisper.
Exhaustion comes over me. My eyes slowly close and each breath feels like it’s my last. But I don’t lay there long.
Strong arms scoop me up like I’m nothing, and I’m captive in an armored embrace. The body is slightly chilled, but a little bit of warmth comes through in the center. I lean against i️t, exhaling. There’s a bit of foggy panic in my mind. But I’m so tired. It’s so dark outside at night, with the stars covered.
“Am I going to die?” I wonder aloud, though it’s soft as the leather I’m swaddled in. Scratchy. So tired.
Before I fall to slumber, that gravelly voice says in something human:
