It’s another fairy tale illustration! This time based on the Russian (if I’m wrong please correct me) story of Snow White. Which has like nothing in common with the more popular Disney Snow White other than the name.

The story goes that an elderly childless couple built themselves a daughter out of snow. Only for her to come to life. Everything was perfect. During winter that is. When spring came around she began to melt. To keep her safe her parents kept her locked away. But she managed to escape. Wanting to play with other children jumping over fires during a festival. However when she made her jump above the fire, she turned into mist. Disappearing forever.

I decided to age her up for the illustration. I think jumping over the fires was to symbolise becoming an adult.

This piece speaks to me a lot as an autistic person. I long for connection with others but socialising is incredibly exhausting for me. And trying to hit life milestones everyone should hit only to just fail miserably.
