So right off the bat we can see some typos and revisions. Goodie Lund has been crossed out and changed to Bathia Mapes. They almost typed “Odd House drawing room.”
Nothing different here that I can catch
Episode aired with the below three pictures under the voice over, done by Nancy Barrett. Voice over ends at “terrifying force.”
On to the recap. The script:

Bathia Mapes: Spirit of Angelique, speak to me. Speak!
Barnabas: You will die! You will die!!
Bathia: My spirit is stronger than you.
Barnabas: No... [LAUGHS]
Bathia: Just as you made his hand cover his eyes when you saw the cross, my hand on his heart will make you fly.
Barnabas: Do not touch me!
Bathia: I will!
Barnabas: Your hand will burn if you touch me!
Bathia: I am not afraid.
[BARNABAS SCREAMS AND GOES LIMP]
Joshua Collins: He is dying!
Bathia: Can you hear me, spirit of Angelique? Do not hide from me. You dare not hide from me. You are lying! You are still in him, carrying your curse with you. But we will not leave until you have left his body!
Barnabas: NO!
[SUDDENLY BARNABAS SPRINGS UP AND BEGINS TO CHOKE BATHIA. JOSHUA TRIES TO COME BETWEEN THEM]
Joshua: Barnabas! Barnabas!
Bathia: The light! The light!!
[JOSHUA TAKES A CANDLE AND HOLDS IT TOWARDS BARNABAS]
Joshua: What has happened?
Bathia: Terrible power is here. She’s among us now! And her power is evil!
[JOSHUA LOOKS INTO THE AIR AS IF TO SENSE IT TOO. BARNABAS STARES BLANKLY INTO SPACE. CUT TO MAIN TITLE]
And there we have it. The only things that carried through to air were Barnabas choking Bathia, and stopping because he saw a candle. Even then they play out slightly different.
Act 1 isn’t 99% different like the recap so I’m not going to be transcribing the whole scene. Since there’s already so much to cover with this script I’m not going to point out every single difference that’s clearly a flub or when the actor changes like a single word in the line. For instance, instead of saying “Then - then let us begin again” Louis just says “Let us begin again.” I’m also not going to go over every X-ed out thing, an most of them are just typos.
1-4: Bathia’s opening line is cut from the episode. The first thing said after the fade-in is Joshua’s “Let us begin again.”
1-5: Almost this entire page is cut. Bathia goes right from “And for me as well” straight into “But it would mean direct.”
1-5: The X-ed out text after Bathia’s (SMILING WRYLY) is Do you, and the block of it lower down says I must tell you, good sir, that I am far less willing than you to take up this combat again.
1-6: On air Bathia says “Then the battle would take place in the deepest recesses of the deepest darkness.”
1-6: Barnabas’s trance line is cut
The line that Bathia starts at the bottom of 1-6 that continues onto 1-7 is mostly cut. On air she only says “No, Mr. Collins, I can help no more.”
1-7 is also mostly cut. All that makes it to air is “No, Mr. Collins. I can help no more,” “I’ll give you anything you want - Money - anything,” and “I would help you if I could.” This is said to Joshua instead of Barnabas.
1-8: Barnabas asking for help and Bathia apologizing are cut
1-9: This all makes it to air, but when Barnabas says “I see myself!” his eyes remain open & staring into space. The X-ed out bit is me
The bottom half of 1-10 and the top of 1-11 are tricky. Everything is the same up through Bathia saying “Any disturbance would be fatal -” where it seems that Louis jumps the gun and skips some lines, cutting in with “Yes there - there will be no disturbance. I will find a way to reward you.” Bathia picks up at “My survival will be my reward...”
The rest of 1-11 makes it to air.
1-12: Only Bathia’s first and last line on this page make it to air.
1-13: Makes it to air verbatim
1-14: From this point on the character is typed Goodie but referred to as Bathia in hand written notes. The crossed out line does not make it.
3-23: Fade in from commercial break happens as Millicent is saying “But my lieutenant hasn’t left yet”
Naomi’s X-ed out text reads What - what are you talking
3-24: Nathan’s line “Go with her now, like a good girl.” is changed to “Go along with her Millicent now.”
3-25: Nathan’s first line is cut, Millicent goes right from “yours as well as mine” into “Come, we’ll go together -”
3-25: Crossed out lines don’t make it. This might be obvious but i will continue to say it for the sake of being excruciatingly thorough.
Interestingly, instead of 3-26 being the next page we get two insert things, 3-25-a and 3-25-b.
3-25-a is unchanged until Naomi’s second line. After that Nathan says “Alright now Millicent stop” and then things goes completely different than whats on the next several pages, until 3-28.
So what actually airs is
Nathan: Alright now Millicent stop.
Naomi: Yes, I saw the lights in the tower room - Joshua kept trying to persuade me I didn’t.
Millicent: And I went to the tower room, and I found Barnabas.
Naomi: Millicent!
Millicent: Or - or a man who looked like Barnabas. Or perhaps it was not Barnabas after all.
Nathan: Now you know that isn’t true.
Naomi: It couldn’t be
Millicent: Cousin Joshua has taken Barnabas to the Old House-
Naomi: The Old House?
Millicent: And if you’ll come with me, we’ll find him there.
Naomi: No you must stay here. [STARTS TO WALK OUT]
Nathan: Where are you going?
Naomi: Out
Nathan: You’re not going to the Old House are you?
Millicent: Well of course she is! She wants to find Barnabas - and so do I.
Nathan: Now listen you can’t believe a thing she’s been saying.
Naomi: I don’t know what to believe. You better take her upstairs.
Nathan: No - I can’t let you out of this house now - I mean, it’s not safe for you to be wondering around the woods all by yourself.
Naomi: I’m quite capable of taking care of myself lieutenant. Attend to your wife - she’s the one who needs you. [LEAVES]
Nathan: Mrs. Collins!
Millicent: Wife? You - you have a wife? We can never marry. I had forgotten. You have a wife. I am betrayed.
Nathan: Alright Millicent that’s enough.
Millicent: I will kill you - with my own hands I will kill you! [MAKES TO ATTACK HIM, HE GRABS HER WRISTS]
Nathan: Millicent! Millicent stop it! [HE SLAPS HER. SHE SOBS AGAINST HIM]
Millicent: Cousin Barnabas - come to me - protect me - help me.
3-29: Bathia doesn’t do any moaning before her monologue.
3-29 to 3-30: Monologue as aired is “Can you hear me Angelique? As I walk I make a circle of crosses which will keep you from doing him harm. For it is a circle of faith, and you dare not enter there. Dark - dark! How can it be so dark? Light - there must be light. I know you are here, and I will find you. The light will find you and destroy you forever! But first, a final warning. Free this man from your curse. Surrender - surrender your power. I will search for you in the dark, and I will find you by the light of your own fire! I will burn you in the light of your own fire!”
3-30: Naomi bursting in, seeing everything, and fainting is changed entirely. In the episode, it cuts from Bathia holding the ribbon over a candle to Naomi trying to open the front doors of the Old House.
Naomi: [YELLING THROUGH THE DOORS] Joshua! Joshua! Joshua! [SHE GOES OVER TO THE WINDOW AND PEERS IN]
[BARNABAS STARTS TO COME OUT OF THE TRANCE]
Barnabas: “M-mother?”
Bathia: [TO JOSHUA] He is coming out of the trance. Get her away, quickly. All is lost.
[JOSHUA WALKS TOWARDS THE FRONT DOORS, OUT OF SHOT. FADE TO BLACK]
2-17: the first three lines get minor changes. Bathia says “If the circle of faith is broken again, all is lost.” Joshua’s response is “No one is here, nothing will break your concentration” and then “My work depends upon it - and my very existence.”
2-17: No table low or long is in shot, Bathia and Joshua just walk out of frame as the scene transitions.
2-17: X-ed out text reads No more than a man would and I will see that nothing interrupts.
2-17: Nathan’s line is exactly what is handwritten.
2-18: Naomi’s first line is “She wasn’t. I thought she was with you.” Everything else that isn’t crossed out makes it to air.
