We are joking about “Dark Woke won” but I do really hope these results force a realization in media creators who are convinced they should cater to conservatives now and diversity doesn’t sell (looking at you, Paramount) just how hasty an assumption that was. “People don’t want more Muslim characters” a Muslim just got elected mayor of the nation’s largest city. “People are sick of condescending liberals who think everything is fascist” a guy who said he’d piss on his Republican opponents’ graves and that they are raising little fascists won a statewide election in Virginia in spite of that. “People have rejected trans ideology” anti-trans extremism just got its ass handed to it all over the county, from state elections to local school boards.

The country had never “become more MAGA.” A lot of people who mostly don’t pay much attention to politics decided they liked what Trump was selling better than Harris last year for various… not very good reasons, but it was clear they largely weren’t about Republicans’ culture war grievances. Some of them, who don’t know (or don’t think they know) many trans people, fell for some right wing myths about them that framed “trans ideology” as being forced on them. Repubs, as they often do, decided to interpret that as an endorsement of their whole project, and did a bunch of extremely unpopular things (including, once again, making it clear that they are the ones who actually want to force their ideas about gender and sex on everyone), and are now seeing the consequences of that.

So like, media creators I hope are taking note of that too. Most viewers of media honestly probably don’t care about how diverse it is, but those of us who want diversity and representation and will stop watching your stuff and pull the plug on your services (in a lasting way, not as a temporary boycott) are clearly now a larger group than people who get mad at its inclusion. You piss us off at your own peril! We are not taking shit right now!

ok one more complaint to end the night But it also sucks how that in one fluke episode where john comes back and is all “i always hoped you’d have a family” or whatever and deans like well I do actually. the aforementioned angel of the lord and spawn of satan down the hall are my family, it’s like. john meant a normal apple-pie white picket fence suburban hellscape life. literally the remaining visages of the hetero-nuclear family. and dean is like “no actually, I’m very content with my weird untraditional crudely-sewn-together family because I myself am weird and untraditional and crudely sewn together.” and then every au now is like what if he had a normal traditional homo-nuclear family where 9/10 times the angel of heaven is replaced with an identical normal version of himself without any autistic charm and the spawn of Satan isn’t even the spawn of Satan anymore, nor does HE get any of his autistic charm.

feels like every time a piece of media with a big fandom says here’s found family and the overall theme that your identity and family are matters of personal choice instead of biological determination and over again those fandoms said what if we unfounded that family and sprinkle in new blood relation headcanons while we’re at it. i LOVE found family but I would NEVER EVER engage with them unless they were changed to follow a structural family dynamic and have the depth of a teaspoon. in the same way early queer ships were constantly being repackaged into masc/fem dynamics because of heteronormativity and all that. surely this doesn’t indicate anything about our society and people are just playing dolls in a vacuum tho
