His Eyes
Have this silly little story I wrote last weekend. It’s based off some Instagram post talking about how underrated descriptions of black eyes are. And I got to thinking about true black eyes are rare, most are just so dark a brown that they look black. And then this was born. Enjoy!

His eyes. Dark and mysterious. Every time I looked into them I was sucked in; every single time since that very first day.
I remember every second of our first meeting. He stole my fricking coffee. And as much as he says he didn’t do it on purpose, I saw his smirk as he left the building with my coffee in hand. But I didn’t stop him. I couldn’t. I couldn't even move.
His smirk had caught me off guard at first. But then I made the mistake of looking above his lips. A brilliantly sculpted nose, the most prominent cheekbones I’d seen on another man in a long time. And those eyes.
Dark, brooding, and mysterious with a flash of mischief hiding sadness. They were a dark brown, nearly black but not quite. As he turned, the light caught the edges of his iris, exposing the separation of a deep black ring from a burnt shade of brown.
And every day since then, I had the privilege of looking into those wondrous eyes. We were lab partners our entire freshman year of University. We only had one class together as sophomores but we lived in the same dorms and tended to run into each other at parties quite often.
In our junior year, he caught me off guard once again. We had no classes together, nor were we in the same dorm since I lived off campus. But, we still went to the same coffee shop. This time, I stole his coffee on accident. He stopped me by the door and handed me my own.
“Hello again Max. It's been a long time.” His brilliant eyes were staring straight back into my boring old green ones.
“Yes it has.” I turned to go when I noticed a number scribbled on my cup. When I turned back he was gone.
“Max?” I was pulled from my memories at the sound of his morning voice. Deep and drowsy, just like his eyes when he was tired.
“Mhm.” It was just a noise but it was enough of a reply for him.
“It's 4 am, go back to bed, star.” I smiled at the stupid nickname he’d given me because of my 100 in our lab class, freshman year.
“I actually haven't gone to bed yet babe.”
“Are you having those dreams again?”
I nodded and he pulled me down to his reclined form and held me as close as possible. I nuzzled my face into his shoulder, and slowly our forms perfectly fit together.
“Sleep tight star.”
I mumbled a silly comment that got a deep chuckle.
“I love you Max.” I looked up into his dark eyes, so full of love and sleepily smiled at him.
“I love you too Andrew.” With that I nuzzled my face back into his shoulder. It wasn't too long until he was fast asleep. I kept trying and eventually fell asleep as he woke up again.
