I don’t hate Kent! I mean, I kinda did after reading Epikegster honestly, when that was basically all we knew about him. That’s why I wrote this fic, because I wanted to find an explanation for all this that didn’t involve him abusing Jack before so I wouldn’t hate him.
But knowing that he and Jack have such different perspectives on their relationship changes a lot. I think that, in that one instance, Kent was very manipulative. He was trying to control Jack, and then punish Jack when he couldn’t be in control. But a) I can see better how he got to that point (which doesn’t make it okay at all, just more understandable) and b) I really don’t think he was outright emotionally abusing Jack when they were younger. I am willing to bet that he was still somewhat manipulative, and probably an enabler.
Basically, I’m not sure I like Kent Parson, but I don’t hate him, and I am more sympathetic toward him.
And then there’s Fanon Kent, who I love. :D
