Do my new training log books look familiar? If not, you need to watch Dark, the three-season masterpiece on Netflix. Dark is universally loved by those who watch it, but I found it particularly evocative: As well as being influenced by the ideas of Schopenhauer, my favourite philosopher, and Nietzsche, my former favourite philosopher, the @darknetflix soundtrack includes several tracks that hold significant meaning to me. The opening credits are set to Apparat's Goodbye, which appears on The Devil's Walk, one of my favourite albums. I started listening to @apparat3000 and (Sascha Ring's collaboration with Modeselektor) @moderat_band after hearing Holdon on the trailer for the 2010 @tetongravity ski film, Light The Wick. In 2012, I used a track off The Devil's Walk for one of my first ski videos, and for a 2017 edit (see story highlights), I used May and Robot Koch's little-known cover of Moderat's Bad Kingdom, which can be heard in Dark's third season. After hearing it in a @factionskis edit, my favourite track of 2013 was God's Whisper by Raury, subsequently used in Dark's second season.
