I think Cassandra proooobably had a little bit of an anger crush on Varric from the very beginning because, let's face it, Varric is suave.  Plus, Cassandra's love of cheesy romance novels didn't come from nowhere - she's totally into that kind of stuff, and Varric as a writer would have her interested.  But she's angry and on a mission, and getting sucked into Varric's suaveness just makes her more annoyed.

Meanwhile Varric strikes me as someone who was wounded and just will not freaking let it go.  I actually get mad at him in DA:I when Cassandra is clearly making overtures of friendship, and Varric is snubbing her and constantly remarking on how she has no friends.  But I can see that completely breaking down if Cassandra actually expressed, even in a small way, how much those remarks hurt.  And then they could be friends, because Varric befriended Avaline, who is similarly prickly.

tbh I don't know how they would get together in a ship because Bianca, I just know that I really like them in a ship together.

I definitely will!  And if I can bear to give him up, I was planning on giving him to Joseph Fink, since giving fan handicrafts to him seems to be a thing among Night Valeians.
