One of the first mentors that Darklord ever had was a runaway criminal called Markohl that hid away in Darklord's village by posing as an ex-mercenary (technically not wrong) that wanted to lay low and settle down. He worked at the same docks as Darklord did and noticed her skills with the use of spears could be improved, what started as harsh remarks later on became occasional training sessions for him to pass on a bit of his discipline or advice. During this time Darklord came to realise how much Markohl despised the king nearing to paranoia, often dissapearing at times and coming back quietly, he was a dark figure that she came to respect for his discipline and the fact they shared hidden origins. Markohl's past ends up catching up to him when the king's guards find him and reveal he was a runaway assasin that failed to kill the king in an orchestrated effort to overthrow his power, the capital punishment being his arms getting ripped off, left to die and his sword taken away from him. Darklord manages to recover his sword before he dies and places it against his body, telling him that "a swordsman should die with their sword on them", a saying he used to tell her. His last words were something of a thanks, for granting him a bit of dignity in his final moments and for the honor of being her mentor, even if it was unworthy and useless on a man like him.
