A few minutes later she enters the kitchen to find her soulmate cutting cheese. A few tomatoes lay already cut in a small bowl close to the cutting board. He doesn’t raise his head to face her, but as she stops beside him, he offers her a piece. She closes her lips around his fingers, humming as the blue cheese melts against her tongue.
“Bantha cheese?” She’s genuinely surprised. Although easy to find, it isn’t like him to have such a common ingredient in his home.
“Take a look around,” he says, pointing the knife to the stove. “Smell something familiar?”
With furrowed brows, she follows the utensil to find what resembles a white flour on the frying pan. No. It isn’t white flour. It’s different. Like something from her past, from so long ago that she almost forgot.
“Tapioca?”
“Surprised?” The arrogant smirk curving his lips makes her want to wipe it from his face.
Insufferable, really.
“Are you going to let it burn?” She removes the frying pan from the stovetop and flips the tapioca inside with a precision he watches with raised eyebrows. “You should cook it in low heat.”
“So, you can cook.” His tone is accusatory.
She shrugs.
“Never said I couldn’t.”
He puts the knife down on the cutting board and leans against the kitchen island, arms folded at his chest.
For the first time she takes a good look at him. He doesn’t wear his customary blue robe. Instead, he dons black sweatpants and a white tank top.
“All this time you knew how to cook, and you let me believe you don’t know your way around a kitchen.”
Kleya laughs.
“Something like why bother if someone else can do it anyway?” she replies, laughter still in her voice. “Now, cheese.”
He laughs, long and hard, but does as he’s told and puts the cheese slices over the white dough and watches as it melts over it, turning it a little bluish. Kleya puts the tomatoes and over it a dash of negamo, before closing the tapioca.
“Smells delicious,” he whispers against her ear, embracing her from behind.
Better Half | A Krennic x Kleya story is available on AO3.
Doing my very best to update next Monday, because I know I won’t be able to update on October 27th.
A little snippet from chapter 9, in which I battled myself if I should add this traditional brazilian dish or not and then went WTF I’m worried about? Americans always manage to insert bits and pieces of their culture even in media that has nothing to do with them, so why not insert a bit of mine? After all it’s just harmless fun.
Also, my excuse to expand a bit on mine and @wolfinlionskingdom’s headcanon: Krennic CAN cook. Moreover, he’s a good cook.
And a chapter in which Kleya doesn’t think about getting rid of Krennic that much xD
Chapter IX - What a wishful life will be available on October 20th. Hopefully.
