Discovering Mildura’s Mighty Murray
Located near the border of Victoria and New South Wales, Mildura is situated on the mighty Murray River in the Sunraysia region. Known for its fruit growing (especially grapes and oranges) and its gorgeous paddle steamers, Mildura or Mildy as the locals know it, really is a town where you can enjoy a taste of Australian regional life.
However, Mildura isn’t just a regional town, it is a large thriving community, with over 60,000 people residing in the area. It has a laid back vibe and a slower pace. There are shops, restaurants, wineries, nightclubs, but the main attraction, is the Murray itself.

The Murray River is a great spot to fish, ski, swim or even just to sit and relax. There are many sandbars dotted around Mildura to swim in, however the most famous one of all is the Apex Park Sandbar - so be sure to check it out.
You can enjoy the Murray by camping along the river anywhere within the bushland for free. In the off season (anything out of school holidays and public holidays) you are guaranteed a quiet spot with no one else around and your own private sandbar! It really is amazing.
You could also hire a houseboat, they are luxurious and fully fitted out; with bedrooms, kitchens, lounges, bathrooms, BBQ’s, even some with your own Jacuzzi!

The old restored paddle steamers are a must to experience on the Murray whilst you are in Mildura. There are three to choose from: the P.S Melbourne, P.V Rothbury and P.V Mundoo.

Originally built as work boats to carry loads such as logs and for towing, these paddle steamers are now enjoying their days ferrying people up and down two of the longest rives - the Victorian Murray River and the Darling River in New South Wales. You can even book a paddle steamer over to the beautiful Trentham Estate Winery for a cheeky glass of wine and some lunch!
