Former Pogues Bassist Darryl Hunt Dies at 72

- “We are saddened beyond words,” band says

Darryl Hunt, longtime bassist and occasional songwriter for the Pogues, has died, the band said.

“We are saddened beyond words,” the band said on Twitter. “Our Darryl passed away yesterday afternoon (Aug. 8) in London.”

Hunt was 72. No cause was given.

The High Kings eulogized the bassist as a “gifted” musician and said his song “Love You ’Till the End” is “a true classic.”

“We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to his family, friends, bandmates and many fans,” the High Kings said on Facebook. “Rest easy, Darryl.”

Hunt joined the Pogues in 1986 and remained until their 2014 disbandment.

“I am very very sorry that Darryl has passed on, he was a really nice guy and a great friend and a great bass player,” Pogues singer Shane McGown said in a separate statement. “We will all miss him. May he have a happy state of eternal bliss.”
