I am quite shitty at writing itself, but now I’m thinking about a scene where the party has just discovered something, possibly in a cave, and as they want to leave Hiccup is just standing there, in the entrance, silently staring them down, Toothless at his side. And of course they would try to speak with him, ask him, get him to leave his ‘evil ways’ behind, and in the middle of their conversation he starts to laugh. But it is not laughter, it is twisted and haunting, full of disgust for those who tried to kill him. And it throws them back to square one because “That can’t be the Hiccup we knew” but he also left them unharmed???
Lol! A dark!witchunter AU? Actually, I really, really like the theme that, through circumstances of irony, Hiccup does start to dabble in witchcraft in his time away. So that by the time the party finds him, he could actually be labeled as a witch. Out in the wild, trying to free/protect dragons, hiding from people who may recognize him as he’s now an outcast/"witch”, Hiccup encounters a number of unsavory characters. He also starts to learn of the middle ground... that, like dragons, not all craft is evil. He met an alchemist who taught him as much (and one who was living on the brink of her own village, barely escaping the label herself); of powerful healing combinations. There are also protection wards and rituals, defensive ones bordering on dark...
And, the way I’m picturing it, it takes HPo5 nearly a year and a half or so to track him down. Like, Hiccup’s 18, and a lot of shit has happened since The Burning.

Top 5 fanfictions
Okay, this is hard because there are things that stick with me, that I loved at the time, and then I go back and read them years later and I’m like… what? And then there are fantastic stories that I didn’t appreciate when I was young and are now like ‘hoooly hell!’. And some just have different strengths/appeal over other, but are equally satisfying and worthy.
