i lied i only needed 5 minutes, anyways. i like the idea of the endless forest-ifying horses into creatures but i think the spookyness gets lost in translation. you cant capture the uncannyness of the original game and medium in horses, alas i keep trying

but its just not the same 😭, and no this isnt horse prince

if you are unsure what the endless forest is its a really interesting game where you play as a deer with a human face. the only form of communication in game is through deer noises and gestures

but when i draw a horse with a human face it isnt the same its just discount horse prince!!!!.

the ultimate problem here i think is the fact human faces are so full of expression compared to animal faces. it doesnt make you feel the same thing!!!!

human beings are super expressive in different ways from animals. we're incredibly limited on large visual cues for the most part, no ears or tail. posture plays a part of our cues but a lot of it is in facial expressions so its hard to portray anything human unless it has a human face and i think in this case it isnt uncanny valley enough to actually draw notice away from human features. kind of takes over

compared to drawing a real horse which has multiple different, easy to see visual cues for how its feeling for the most part ykno???? you can easily get uncanny valley with a horse because the porportions and joints are so easy to mess up. human and horse just doesnt mesh well unless its a centaur imo

I wanted to get in on this! I had a few ideas but the idea of a draft with a GIGANTIC head was so unsettling to me that I had to try it. Heres my freak.

Some notes on fauxnicorn traits. Though tail and ear length vary by breed, they are usually at least noticeably longer than the average horse, with a section of the upper tail lacking long hair. Long hair is always present at the end of the tail, unless the tail has been docked or lost in some way.

The sclera is white, and noticeable in all breeds and colors. Eye color range is a little more varied than in horses but only "natural" colors are possible (Browns, blues, greens, hazels.)

Coat color generally follows horse coat color rules, though small exceptions are present.

The horn reflects the color of the fauxnicorn's hooves, and can have dark and light banding. It has a twisted texture, but isnt divided into clear even segments. The horn is similar in structure to that of an antelope, with a bony core and a keratin sheath covering it and extending the length by several inches.

The hooves are cloven and deerlike, with two main weight bearing toes and two dewclaws. The shape and size of the hooves varies by breed and individual, with larger riding breeds having larger hooves, more like that of a cow.

Some baby Posh Ganache! The horn starts growing fast! The tail is way too long in the first image please see the second image for a more accurate baby tail length. Ganache is a seal bay mare with sabino and birdcatcher spots if anyone was curious. (the birdcatcher spots don't show up until shes a few years old. Also idk if horses with sabino can even HAVE birdcatcher spots but this is a genetically modified designer pet so I say she can have sabino and birdcatcher spots. generally speaking fauxnicorn coat genetics follow real horse rules, but some small details im like whatever. birdcatcher is weird anyway)
