The entire opening round of King of Trios has been announced! The final match is the only match of the opening round where all six participants are CHIKARA roster members. The Hatfield and McCoy family has had a tumultuous Season to say the very very least, but perhaps Trios gold is what is needed to bring the family together. Boomer has had an incredibly successful rookie year, Dasher had made it to the finals of King of Trios before, and of course enters the tournament as the current Grand champion.The Creatures of the Deep have been a consistent force in CHIKARA the past two Seasons, but their win-loss record and Oceanea’s present have been inconsistent. King of Trios would be the perfect weekend for them to cement their legacy and begin their reign of dominance. Can the Hatfield’s and McCoy keep their cool when they team, or will the Creatures make it out of the first round this year?

The turmoil between the Hatfield and McCoy family has been well documented over the past few weeks. Molly let Boomer know she would never forgive Boomer for unmasking Dasher at “Aniversario: Scotch Mist.” Over dinner, Dasher told McCoy that he was actually proud of Boomer, although he was disappointed that he didn’t have the guts to remove the mask he won. Dasher let her know that he is no longer wrestling for the fans, but for their family. The dinner culminated with Molly asking Dasher to be on a team with her in King of Trios, but she did not have a third partner. Dasher agreed to team with her given his newfound focus of wrestling for the family. Dasher and Molly had a hard time finding a third partner, but Dasher had one idea in mind - Boomer. Family issues aside, Boomer was already announced to take place in the Rey de Voladores tournament during King of Trios weekend. Because of his prior commitment, and the impersonal manner in which Hatfield asked (Twitter as opposed to in person or over the phone), Boomer more or less declined. That is, until, Boomer’s own mother called him (possibly a suggestion from Dasher himself) and asked for him to be part of the team in the hopes that it would lead to the family making amends. Reluctantly, Boomer agreed to team with his father and cousin, pulling himself from the Rey de Voladores tournament in the process. Boomer also made it known that his team must play by the book if they want him to take part. This tournament could be the best thing to happen to this family, but ultimately could lead to further dissension in the ranks as well. Either way, the Hatfield and McCoy’s are officially the fourteenth team in this year’s King of Trios tournament.
