Cosplay Spotlight: Cure Windy/ Kiryuu Kaoru

This cosplay is of Kiryuu Kaoru/ Cure Windy from Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash Star. I was just starting to get into Precure when I decided to cosplay her. The Kiryuu twins really stood out to me at the time, and I still think they have one of the best redemptions in the franchise.
Gosh, I was a baby back then
Everything was handmade, including my Foop plushie. This was my first time entering a masquerade, and this was at a huge convention: Youmacon 2019. I was super nervous! But as my first Precure cosplay, and my first step into the cosplay competition world, I knew I had to just go for it!
I competed in both craftsmanship and performance. I was especially nervous for the performance part; I had severe stage fright, I was dancing in front of people for the first time, and to top it all off I was the first to go on stage! Talk about a nightmare!

In the end, I won the Novice Craftsmanship Runner-up award. I’m still super proud of this cosplay and all of the time and effort that went into it.

I’ve worn her to a few events since. It doesn’t matter to me if only one person has actually ever recognized the character, it’s all about the love for my craft. Unfortunately, I had to retire this cosplay after Youmacon 2022. I just don’t fit in her anymore. I’m glad to have had these experiences, and I hope that this post can be a good send-off for her
