One of my very favorite pieces that CMA has in its permanent collection and is featured in The Jazz Age special exhibition is “Das Wasser” (Water) Figure by Dina Kuhn. Not only is it a stunningly gorgeous sculpture in its own right, but it also is a piece personally selected for CMA by Viktor Schreckengost. VS was an astounding, brilliant Cleveland ceramic artist who pioneered a new wave of functional, beautiful sculptural design in the 1920s and also founded the world-renowned Industrial Design department at Cleveland Institute of Art, where he revolutionized modern American industrial design through his teaching and where he remained as professor emeritus until his death in 2008. His work really had a deep impact on me as a teenager, and I’m so happy to see him and his influence reflected so powerfully in this exhibition. The exhibition is closing on 1/14/18, so if you haven’t been yet, get going! I hope they’re not sold out of tickets! #cmajazzage #clevelandmuseumofart #dinakuhn #daswasser #scuplture #viktorschreckengost #industrialdesign #industrialdesignofthe1920s (at The Cleveland Museum of Art)
