I saw someone tweet about Cybersix, how could i forget about my wife?
Another print for the summer. Kudos to everyone that remembers or knows the show!
Cybersix apparently doodles little pictures of Data in the margins of her workbook and I don’t know how to handle this
and this is how she draws Lucas
bless her, she’s one of those professors who can’t so much as draw a stick figure on the whiteboard, isn’t she?
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Tooting my own horn here, but in spite of a few rough passages I’m still pretty pleased with this epilogue to the too-short Cybersix series.
Taking the stairs two at a time, Lucas finds himself winded, as usual, midway up the third flight. He staggers onto the fourth-floor landing, hands braced on his knees as he gasps for breath. He needs more regular exercise; the walk from home to school and back isn't enough, not even with the detour that brings him past what till tonight was a darkened window.
When he straightens, he's no longer panting, but his pulse thuds in time to the quick knock he raps on the door of 4-A and continues like an echo in the silence afterward. He knocks again, louder.
And again.
And again.
It's delay enough for doubt to catch up, for reason to suggest this is a fool's errand. Maybe he mistook the window; maybe the gleam was only a reflection; maybe he's giving the building manager the fright of his life ...
"Who's there?" answers a voice at last, muffled to unfamiliarity behind the thick panel.
To hell with reason. "It's me -- Lucas."
No reply. "Hark, more knocking!" -- or something like that, right? He raises his fist, but the door pulls away; from behind the chain bolt Adrian's face peers out at him wearily, warily. "Hello."
Lucas's relief is too keen for courtesy. "Are you all right?" he demands. "Where've you been? What happened to you?"
His friend flinches. "I'm fine."
"You don't look it," Lucas replies bluntly, taking in the familiar hunch of Adrian's shoulders, the body curling up around the secret of its pain. He braces a foot against the door, leaning into the gap. "What's wrong?"
Adrian's glance darts aside. "I'm sorry, I -- look, this isn't a good time." The panel pushes outward, sliding Lucas's sole inexorably back across the threshold. "I'll see you later, okay?"
"No, wait!" He clutches at the jamb and yelps as the door shuts on his fingers. "Wait, will you? Ouch!"
One eye glares at him through the crack above his knuckles. "Let go, you idiot."
"Not," he grunts, "this time ... Cybersix."
I was still pretty new to writing love scenes at this point, but as usual I got around the awkwardness by making sure the characters had other things to do and worry about besides spoon. And this was still a very young relationship, anyway ...
nice acting, dataseven. maybe you’re in the wrong business?
Now do Dataseven I wanna hear about Dataseven
EVERYONE WANTS TO HEAR ABOUT DATASEVEN, DATASEVEN IS SO IMPORTANT, DATASEVEN,,,,,,
2-4 songs that are probably on their iPod: ignoring the lack of opposable thumbs to handle an iPod, i can totally see dataseven with "animal i have become" on it as a joke, except cybersix takes it a bit more seriously and talks to him about his Panther Feelings and he surprisingly appreciates the talk, he's been repressing his Panther Feelings, that's all i can think of besides a lot of three days grace.
the one place they sometimes end up falling asleep — where they’re not supposed to: he wasn't originally supposed to fall asleep in that weird lil sewer cove, c6 was going to hide him in the apartment, but he was wandering around the city after reuniting with c6 when he found it and decided this place was good for a power nap, and apartments were not ideal for panthers anyways. he has to get washed up all the time. i'd also say when he is at the apartment he'd nap in c6's bed, but like she's offered that to him before so it's not really a forbidden sleeping spot.
the game they’d destroy everyone else at: charades obvs
the emoticon they’d use most often: okay okay okay imagine julian manages to get a cell one day and he and d7 are chilling and c6 texts them asking how they are and julian texts her back and goes "btw d7 says :3". dataseven is disgusted but he does not have the thumbs to fight back.
what they act like when they haven’t had enough sleep: paranoid, definitely, paranoid and fretting over c6 and julian and everyone else, his cat naps are really important to him.
their preferred hot beverage on really cold nights. or mornings. or whenever: well one time he broke into lucas' apartment and knocked over a cup of coffee lucas had forgotten about, that's probably the closest he can get to a hot drink. is that even good for panthers. is tea good for panthers bc if it's not bad then maybe c6 would try giving him some. but she'd make sure it doesn't kill him.
how they like to comfort/care for themselves when they’re in a slump: he demands to be pet and scratched behind the ear and stuff, he demands love,
what they wanted to be when they grew up: oh god this is terrible bc like as cyber29 i don't think he'd have had a concrete idea? like von reichter probably kept the cyber kids pretty isolated before deciding they weren't worth the trouble. and then being reborn as dataseven, well he didn't. remember being c29 anymore and pretty much went straight into being vr's lackey. he definitely wanted to be some sort of protective figure though.
their favorite kind of weather: mm definitely warm? i don't see him liking the cold at all bc he's probably been in warm climates his entire life. he doesn't mind a light rain though.
thoughts on their singing voice (decent? terrible? soprano? alto?): he roars and it's majestic.
how/what they like to draw or doodle: he and c6 probably drew lil pictures of each other all the time before he became dataseven omg, like of themselves and their other siblings and other vr creations and the things they saw around them. he can't really do that anymore.
this cat is remarkably chill for what he's gone through but here's some sad songs for him anyways. [LISTEN]
“Resurrection” by Apocalyptica “Body” by Mother Mother (take my eyes, take them aside / take my face and desecrate / arms and legs get in the way / bodies break) “30 Lives” by Imagine Dragons (good morning myself / it's been a while since we have talked / you have changed / for better or worse is yet to determine) “Keep the Streets Empty for Me” by Fever Ray (i learned to not eat the snow / my fur is hot, my tongue is cold / on a bed of spider web / i think about to change myself) “Sad Dream” by Sky Ferreira (i thought about you all day, how we have the same face / i fell asleep so confused, parts of me remind me of you / how could i ever wished away?) “Ash Tree Lane” by MS MR (moving space but not in time / choices made but nothing's right / flakes of memory plagued by disease / have only seen what i wanna see) “Dark Wings” by Within Temptation (as they took your soul away / the night turned into the day / blinded by your rays of life / gave us the strength we needed) “Daniel in the Den” by Bastille (and it's harder than you think / telling dreams from one another / and you thought the lions were bad / well they tried to kill my brothers) “1 John 4:16” by the Mountain Goats (and someone leads the beast in on its chain / but i know you're thinking of me 'cause it's just about to rain / so i won’t be afraid of anything ever again) “To the Bitter End (I’ll be With You)” by Signal to Noise (and last year passed / and now it's this year nearly gone / and next year's like a memory / i've long forgotten)
i'm very sorry but just have one more. "dataseven what happened to julian" "well sis that is a very long story"
