“Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! Prewett A!” Marlene held her new pygmy badger’s cage firmly in one hand, and her backpack far more loosely in the other, as she chased Gideon across the lawn, almost all the way to the greenhouses. When she reached him, she set her bag the ground, only to summon a large encyclopedia from within.

“I borrowed this from the greenhouse the other day. And it was either trust D.W., deal with Alecto, break my arm trying to get in again, or---” With a sheepish grin, Marlene offered the herbologist the book. “You’re probably the best bet on getting it back safely.”

“You’ve got mail.” Fabian held up a package, wrapped neatly in brown paper and tied elegantly with orange string. Atop the package was an addressing---but not made out to Gideon. “Er--- Freddie does, anyway.”

“I suppose it would be in poor taste to have celebratory birthday drinks the night before a wedding we’re due to attend?” Wendy picked a hat from the pile of donated garments she and Narcissa were meant to be sorting for their philanthropic endeavors. “I suppose we at least have the whole of Easter holiday to do as we wish. I could give up one day for an entire week of festivities, couldn’t you?” Whirling away from the mirror, Wendy posed for Narcissa, the hat fit atop her head. “What do you think?”

It had been difficult to sleep the night before. Hell, it had been difficult to be awake the whole day leading up to it. And now, at what was surely somewhere between the witching hour and the ungodly hour at which owls had copies of the Daily Prophet tied to their legs, Mason laid wide awake, staring up at the many moving staircases.

Oh, he was going to be sick again, he just knew it.

The staircases were even louder than he had remembered, but somewhere in the darkness, over the creaking and groaning of stone moving out of place only to rearrange itself again, Mason thought he heard something else---another one of his peers, as restless and nervous as he was, surely. He couldn’t be the only one who was struggling with this, even at four in the morning, right?

“You awake?” Mason whispered to no one in particular, wondering if anyone would answer him beyond his own desperate imagination.

It had been a difficult choice, who to owl first. It wasn’t that one meant more than the other, nor was one being prioritized over the other; neither, Fabian knew, was any more or less undeserving than the other. But how to decide in a way that didn’t make it seem as though that was how he felt? Fabian decided on Alice, the reasoning being that she would never ask for him -- or anyone else -- to come. He knew -- he hoped -- that wherever Clem was, she was being well taken care of by people who knew how to, who wouldn’t turn away at the first defensive cold shoulder or bristle. Fabian felt a little more confident in his decision with every step closer he took to finding Alice inside the castle. Finally, he found her.
