I love the thought of someone challenging Kal, and he just stands from where he'd been resting, and shrugging the mantle off of his shoulders, revealing armor and strong muscles. Really laying into the 'you done fucked up now' vibes.
The really funny thing about this is that @isei-bleeds is the one who suggested fur mantles as part of typical Dakh costume during some worldbuilding talks, and I am 90% sure that this sort of imagery was part of the reason. It definitely was part of the reason I went “yes, good idea, let’s do that.”
Look, it works logically, the Dakh live in the mountains, and a lot of the climate that I think of when I think of where they live is based on the mountains in the Philippines, where one of my Uncles has a farm. The drive up is interspersed with patches of cloud cover and direct sun, and as you drive through them it goes from wet and cold to blazing hot almost in an instant. The Dakh’s living situation is similar, if not more extreme!
But also yes definitely because the image of a yautja slipping it off and revealing bare muscles is very good for me, I am allowed to put things in because it’s sexy, right? Right? Someone back me up here.
