random headcanon: Maria thought she had accepted her fate, having lived in sickness nearly all her life. She was optimistic that Shadow and her grandfather would find a cure for her, but she wasn’t naive; she knew that the possibility of dying before she could be cured was VERY real. But when GUN took over ARK, she realized how badly she was scared of dying. However, when the GUN soldiers chased her and Shadow all the way to the escape pods? She didn’t save Shadow at the cost of her life because she was brave. She did it because she was terrified of dying, but that fear paled in comparison of the fear of Shadow dying instead.

unpopular opinion: mobian!maria as a hedgehog is boring; mobian!maria as a bird (maybe a canary, or a chick since i picture mobian!eggman and mobian!gerald as roosters) is where it’s at
